About me
I’ve always had a love for imagery and its power to tell stories, so I decided early on to study photography. My first career path was the life of a commercial still photographer. I started when film was the only available medium. A few years into my career, digital technology came into play and I remember having a love-hate relationship with it; the results were immediate but we as photographers lost control of our images when the digital artist would take over and retouch them until they were almost unrecognizable.
I was determined to keep the integrity of my images and decided I better learn all about the “Mac”, retouching and design. The photo studio I worked for at the time then decided to offer full concept ads as part of his studio services and so ultimately yours truly, became the appointed designer/art director.
After many years designing, retouching, and color correcting images I realized something was missing in the form of creativity and decided to go back to school. I then discovered The Motion Picture and Television Production Crafts Program at WLAC. I quickly realized I wanted to become a film editor. It seems like such a natural progression for me to continue my world in post and create stories through motion in lieu of stills.
So far I have learned a lot being on sets and being a part of the actual film making process. Although my chosen craft pathway is in editing, I realize what a collaborative medium this is and how important it is to have a good crew working together to craft the story before it even gets to the post production team.
I’m currently enjoying the process of balancing the technical brain and the creative brain – transcode, organize, cut.
As a character from a film I truly enjoy once stated, “It's supposed to be hard. If it wasn’t hard, everyone would do it. The hard...is what makes it great.”
