About me
Over the years I have gained knowledge in the creative and cultural industry; as well as keeping up to date with the latest, innovative and modern technical theatre equipment. Attending conferences and workshops has given me an insight into the newest sound desks to the latest intelligent lighting fixtures and products. This has helped me also develop other skills that I can use in any area of work.In my spare time I like to DJ for private parties and events I stared this when I was 16 buying a few lights and small PA system. Since then I have expanded and upgraded my equipment to be able to lager parties. I also enjoy DIY and love getting stuck into making things such as fitting windows and hanging doors to the odd but of plumbing and electrical. I also enjoy looking online at new technical products and gadgets available on the market as well as enjoy taking things apart to try and fix them. All of my hobbies have helped me learn new things that I can then use in my work. I also enjoy my relaxing time every once in a while.
Additional skills:
Interpersonal Skills: works well with others, supportive, motivates others, delegates effectively, represents others, self-confident, accepts responsibility
I developed my passion for theatre about 17 years ago, and have been involved in performing since the age of three. As I grew older, I realized I loved the technical side of theatre as well as performing. As an original member of OSTAA (On Stage Theatre Arts Academy), I have been fortunate enough to stage manage, design lighting and operate sound and lights for their most recent Presentation performance in Room One of the Carraigeworks.
Over the Christmas period I organised a charity event, Horsforth’s Got Talent, to raise funds for St Gemmas Hospice and Cancer Research UK. The tasks involved was to source the venue, the acts, and the judges, and also create the marketing and promotion, through the local press and radio interviews, managing money, acts and staff, I also set the lighting and the sound for this event.
Also from working with amateur company's at the carraigeworks I had the self motivation to ask if I could be trained on the fly floor by one of your staff. After my training I put this into practice on Lidos's annual pantomime.(Jan 2013)
Research and Planning: creating ideas, identifying problems, meeting goals, gather information, solve problems, assessing situations.
Recently I was sent a Installation design from my current boss asking if this would be possible. The instillation was a scaffold structure with pendulums hung off the center beam. Looking at plans and realizing the issue with the scaffold structure as the pendulum were too heavy for the bar so I rectified this by putting cross beams at the bottom of the structure to stop the legs from pushing out wards.
At the Howard Assembly Room we often research into bands who are coming into the venue come in to make sure they are not known for going over venues DbSPL Levels with regards to the company's and the council health and safety risk assessment regulations.
Organizational Skills: coordinates tasks, punctual, manages projects effectively, meets deadlines, sets goals, multi-tasks
Working with lidos has allowed to gain experience and excel in my punctuality. In Lidos I often work as stage crew which has improved my skills like following instructions and working as a team.
I'm also very use to working towards deadlines and goals, I see every get in for a show as a deadline as its essential that we have the stage set for when the performers and staff come in to start doing technical and dress rehearsals.
Management Skills: leads groups, manages conflict, delegates responsibility, makes decisions, directs others, implements decisions, enforces policies, takes charge.
When at college we often worked in groups to create devised drama pieces and was often able to take charge of group work to listen to others and implement my and others ideas to create a short drama that we were all happy with.
Whilst working in technical theatre I also realized that flexibility is often a key skill to have, working with technology can be temperamental and the ability to adapt to situations and problem solving is really helpful. I have also taken this into daily life and this has helped dealing with people and arranging hobbies.
I feel all the skills and experience, I have gained in the arts and events industry is valuable to my work.
