Work Experience (all unpaid):
James Atkins: Editor Dec, 2010 – Apr, 2011
I produced a trailer for a short film, 'The Ghoul Lord', directed by James Atkins. All correspondence between myself and James had been through e-mails and the internet, so it had taken some time to get the piece to match exactly with what James wanted. The trailer was sent to a composer to create original music, which adds a more professional feel to the finished piece. Through this project I have taught myself how to use LiveType software, in order to create titles in the way that the director had envisioned.
Disclosure Productions: Editor May 2010 – June 2010
I completed a re-edit of a piece titled 'Dinner Party' for Disclosure Productions. The piece was originally over 30 minutes long, and I was required to cut it down to exactly 20 minutes for entry into a festival. This was quite a difficult task as the piece was already tightly edited, and it had quite a few scenes with only one shot. Also there were specific moods in different parts of the film, that worked well and I didn't want to lose the overall feeling of the piece. This meant I had to make some difficult cuts to be able to keep the the main message and feeling of the film, whilst still getting it down to the required time limit.
The London Studios: Shadowing Runners May 2010
I undertook a week of work experience with The London Studios. At my placement I was required to shadow both the Studio and Post Production Runners. I completed tasks such as:
- Helping with tea, toast and lunch runs.
- Ensuring editing suites, green rooms and make up rooms were tidy and fully stocked.
- Collecting guests from the reception and escorting them to studios.
- Moving and patching video decks (both SD and HD).
- Transferring tapes to DVD's and other VTR room tasks.
- Returning and sorting tapes in the tape library.
Sandstorm Studios: Editor October 2009
I did a small amount of editing work for Sandstorm, using Final Cut Pro. I was required to edit a video of a tour of the company's new studios, to send out to clients. I had to edit to specific requirement from the company, and add personalised introductions to the tour for each client. I also had to do a small amount of colour correction to the piece.
