About me
Peter Michael Marino is a New York City native where he has worked extensively as a teacher, director, writer, producer and actor. His work has been seen on five continents. He is a member of AEA, SAG-AFTRA, The Dramatists Guild, and a graduate of the Commercial Theater Institute. He is an adjunct professor teaching Sketch Comedy at Pace University and William Paterson University.Pete is the creator and co-producer of SOLOCOM, which has presented the world premieres of over 500 national and international solo comedies at The People’s Improv Theater in NYC. His production company, PM2 Entertainment, co-produced the 2015 Edinburgh Fringe hit Gary Busey’s One-Man Hamlet as Performed by David Carl, which embarked on a world tour in 2016. Additional NYC productions include David Mills’ SHAME!, Bill Santiago’s Ultimate Big Bang and Charles’ Moby Alpha. He is the librettist of the 2007 West End musical Desperately Seeking Susan, based on the film and featuring the songs of Blondie. The show played on London’s West End at the Novello Theatre, and opened to rave reviews in Tokyo in 2009. His current solo show spoof, Late with Lance!, has played NYC, Orlando Fringe, Hollywood Fringe, Edinburgh Fringe and London. www.LanceShow.com
Pete performed his solo comedy, Desperately Seeking the Exit from removed , which humorously recounts the London mounting of his musical. The show played NYC, Hollywood, Manchester, Orlando, Buffalo and Philadelphia and received 5-star reviews at the 2012 & 2013 Edinburgh Festival Fringe where it was named Best Solo Show. As a teacher, Pete received both the 2010 and 2011 Backstage NY Readers Choice Award for Favorite Comedy Teacher for his ongoing “Flying Solo” classes at The PIT, and was named 2013 Teacher of the Year at The PIT. He also teaches his acclaimed “Comedy Essentials” and “Instant Improv” workshops at the Actors Centre in London. He is also an adjunct faculty member at Pace University’s Performing Arts Program, teaching Sketch Comedy.
Pete has directed and developed dozens of shows, including Amy Marcs’ Nice T*ts (The PIT), Mark Demayo’s 20 & Out (NY Fringe), Mark Giordano’s critically acclaimed MAD MAN (The PIT), Lori Hammel’s Margo Rose LIVE! (The PIT), and Amy Albert’s Delilah Dix: America’s Showgirl (Ars Nova). Other directing/development credits include Delilah Dix: Showin’ My Business (Ars Nova, Laurie Beechman Theatre), and Alicia Levy’s sold-out rollicking comedy concert, Chickapalooza (Ars Nova, PIT). In 2010 he directed and developed the critically acclaimed Edinburgh Fringe production of Delilah Dix & Her Bag of Tricks, which also played Don't Tell Mama, New World Stages, and Second City L.A.
In December ’09, Peter directed two Buffalo premiers: A Christmas Twist (Alt Theatre), and the improvised Character Witness at SUNY Buffalo. Other removed NYC credits include Elizabeth Whitney’s Wonder Woman! A Cabaret of Heroic Proportions! (TADA), Adelaide Mestre’s Top Drawer, and 25 videos for Lori Hammel’s Margo Rose Ferderer news spoofs .
Other directing credits include the New York City premieres of Chicago’s Illegitimate Players’ A Christmas Twist and Burton Cohen’s Jackie Lantern’s Halloween Revenge, both at The Village Theatre; Susannah Nolan’s award-winning production of Don’t Pick Up at the American Globe Theatre, as well as the Western New York premiere of Extremities. He has also staged readings of a dozen new plays, working in development at The Writer’s Theater with Tom Fontana (of "St. Elsewhere," "Homicide: Life on the Street," "Oz.” Additional directing, development and producing credits include premieres at New York City venues Ensemble Studio Theater, Don’t Tell Mama, The Duplex, The Cubiculo, and UCB Theater.
He wrote and performed the title role in the critically acclaimed New York City cabaret-spoof hit Lance Jonathan: All About Me!, which was nominated for a MAC award. The sequel, Lance Jonathan: More About Me! was met with critical acclaim and received the 1999 Backstage Bistro Award for Outstanding Achievement. The show was also nominated for two MAC Awards for Original Musical Comedy and Original Song. His critically acclaimed follow-up, Late with Lance!, toured the US and UK in 2015.
With Sheila Head he co-wrote Hollywood Nurses, an homage to the lesbian pulp novels of the 1950s, which enjoyed a sold-out run at Chashama on 42nd Street. This wild comedy is in development for a 2016 Off-Broadway run.
Peter directed and developed Ms. Head's motivational speaker spoof, Head Games at Ars Nova and The PIT in New York City, and IO West in Los Angeles. Together, they created the improvised cult show Character Witness, which ran for two years and led to the development of over fifty original characters and its cable TV spin-off, The Uncle Charlie Show, which enjoyed a national following.
As an actor, he has appeared in dozens of Off-Broadway, cabaret and regional productions as well as countless workshops. He provided the comic relief for five years around the world in the smash STOMP. On film, he portrayed John Dean in Spike Lee’s “She Hate Me.” Television appearances include “Late Show with David Letterman,” “Cyberchase,” “Guiding Light,” “All My Children,” and “As the World Turns.” His voice has been heard on hundreds of television and radio commercials for very important beverages, banks, bands and perfumes.
