Ref: Letter of Recommendation for Rajan Zaveri
I am writing this letter in support of Rajan Zaveri's media ability. I am a Human Rights Lawyer with over 10 years of experience litigating on behalf of the human rights of the poor and marginalized. I am currently one of the Directors of Nazdeek, a capacity building organization committed to bring access to justice closer to marginalized communities in India. Nazdeek partners with grassroots activists and lawyers to build community-based legal networks to advance social and economic rights.
In our work we make extensive use of multimedia as a tool to bring critical local issues to global attention. Rajan has been a cardinal part of our multimedia team since our organization’s inception. He is a passionate photographer and more importantly a compassionate individual, dedicated to using stories & media to empower and restore justice. Rajan’s sensitivity to grassroots issues has helped him gain the trust of communities and individuals in some of the most distressing times. His strongest assets are the ability to produce high quality work in stressful situations; the use of innovative technology for telling critical stories and his high professional ethics.
As a human rights lawyer working on very critical issues, I would also like to acknowledge talent, commitment and dedication displayed by Rajan while helping us document human rights violations, be it those suffered by tea plantation workers, or cases of police brutality, or forced evictions of urban poor living in slums.
For instance, Rajan’s work has been particularly powerful in supporting a grassroots campaign to secure dignified working conditions for tea plantation workers in Assam. He used a combination of traditional and new media, tailored to each story, while displaying cultural sensitivity and a strong understanding of local dynamics required in a context marked by ethnic conflict and a high level of complexity.
May you wish to have more information or require any clarification on the points I have raised above, please do not hesitate to email at removed .
