About me
As young black girl growing up in a 99% stanchly religious Caucasian community, Ridgeway offers the underground 1% perspective rarely seen. Split between two lives, handling the dichotomy of “talking white” and being an “Oreo” with the constant reminder of being “other” and “devilish” began as a challenge. From childhood she faced an unstable combination of racism and fear. Her parents schooled her early in the art of succeeding despite circumstance and expectations. The ignorant chants became the fuel used to power her survival, and writing became the vehicle. She left her small town and attended the University of Pennsylvania, graduating in 2011 with a B.A. in Cinema Studies and a minor in Cognitive Neuroscience. After Penn, she dove into the entertainment scene through various internships, eventually landing as a producer's intern at Jesse Collins Entertainment. Through the mentorship of Jesse Collins she became a segment producer, notably working on the BET Awards and BET Hip Hop Awards. In 2014, An African Western written by Ms. Wilson and fellow Ivy League graduate Chloe Castellón was an Academy Nicholl Fellowship Quaterfinalist. From there, the duo went on to pen two studio projects for Paramount and CBS Films. Currently, they are being considered for a Universal film with Kerry Washington attached and an action-adventure retelling of Cleopatra at Warner Brothers. In 2016, Ridgeway produced and Chloe directed a proof of concept for their new feature spec, No Good Gang Girls. Growing into a young adult, Ridgeway learned to use what she experienced from both cultures to unpack the world at large. It helps her see beyond the immediate into a realm that can only be accessed by the rarified air of duality.Referees:
