About me
One Dance UK/DAD Trailblazer removed and recipient of Dancer's Career Development fund.South Africa, Ugie born, London-based Ndabeni trained in Southern African Dance, Contemporary and Ballet at Dance For All, Khayelitsha in Cape Town, San Francisco Academy of Ballet, Kaatsbaan, New York and London Studio Centre.
Ndabeni has worked with companies such as Cape Town City Ballet, New Adventures, Rambert, Cape Dance Company, Didy Veldman, Company Chameleon, Alesandra Seutin Vocab Dance, Company Wayne McGregor, Tavaziva Dance and Ballet Black touring the U.K and throughout the world in countries such as Germany, Japan, South Africa, Australia, Korea, China, the United States and Mexico including award winning Ladysmith Black Mambazo, Goshka Macuga and Daniel Brandt.
Mbulelo has been passionate about choreography from his early days of training, and he has created been commissioned works for the Cape Town City Ballet ‘Nomvula’ 2004, ADAD's Bloom Festival ‘Indela extract’ 2013, English National Ballet School graduation solo ‘X’ 2012, Rambert's season of new choreography ‘Dealing’ 2009, ‘Indela’ 2010, ‘Face Up’ 2012, ‘Yimani’ 2013, Cloud Dance Festival ‘The State in-between’ 2013, 1898 Dance Festival “Beholder of Beauty’ 2015, Horniman Museum Africa Late Festival ‘vUka’ 2015, One Dance UK/DAD Trailblazers showcase 'NaY - Nam and You’ 2016, 'I Matter’ 2016, Goshka Macuga’s ‘End Of Line’ 2016, 'NNN' 2017, ‘0-01’ 2017, ‘Eternal Something’ 2017.
Ndabeni has collaborated with Clinical Psychologist Dr Omar Timberlake including working with creatives such as composers Robert Millett, Shirley Thompson, Semay Wu, Roberto David Rusconi, Yemalla Drummers, Mira Calix, Sola Akingbola, Levi Roots and lighting designers Yaron Abulafia and Sherry Coenen. His works have been performed at venues including Sadler's Wells Lilian Baylis, Royal Opera House Linbury Studio Theatre, Queen Elizabeth Hall, The Place Theatre, Bernie Grant Arts Centre, The Tabernacle, The Print Room, Richmix, Middlesex University, Trinity Laban, River Stage, MAC Birmingham, Artscape, DRAF Camden ( October 2016 ) with a two month residency at the Lowry in Manchester ( 29 October 2016 - 25th Feb 2017 ).
Ndabeni was a movement director at Royal Shakespeare Company ‘Hamlet’ removed directed by Simon Godwin, UK and International tour, ‘Trouble In Mind’ 2017 directed by Laurence Boswell, ‘Sankara‘ 2018 at Cockpit Theatre directed by Riccardo Dujany at venues such as Stratford Upon-Avon, Theatre Royal Bath, Salford, Plymouth, Hull, Newcastle upon Tyne, Northampton, Hackney Empire and Kennedy Centre, Washington D.C. and Cockpit Theatre.
Supported by Arts Council England Grants For The Arts and various organisations Ndabeni curated and produced NaY Triple Bill in collaboration with Clinical Psychologist Dr Omar Timberlake, flamenco artist Yinka Esi Graves, sound designer/composer Xana, Poet Remi Graves, costume stylist/designer Natasha Thamali, set designer Vanessa Perreira Coimpra, composer Roberto David Rusconi, choreographer Carolyn Bolton, composer Anna Appleby and Yemalla Drummers including master drummer Angie Amra Anderson at Richmix featuring early stages creative ideas in works such as ‘iBali - Echoes Of The Future’, ‘Nam and You’ and ‘Solo Matter’ as well as providing a platform for the future generation of artists Artistry Youth Dance and AkomaAsa Performing Arts Academy.
Ndabeni is a dance lecturer, teacher in ballet, Cunningham based technique and Southern African Dance. He has taught at London Contemporary Dance School, The Place CAT scheme, London Studio Centre, Rambert's learning and participation, Trinity Laban, Artistry Youth Dance, AkomaAsa Performing Arts Academy and The Place CAT programme. He has also taught Company classes at Rambert and Henri Oguike Dance Company.
