La Sequia / Drought

2017, 25 minutes

A Jaurense teenage boy caught up in low-level crime is forced to question the place he calls home when the girl he likes disappears.

700 miles from Los Angeles, along the Rio Grande in the outcroppings of Ciudad Juárez, commonly referred to as the ‘Colonias’ a fifteen-year-old boy named Memo does odd jobs like most boys his age to help his single mom make ends meet. Except his jobs are for the local cartel. They are without glamour or notoriety. He does them because they pay better than the American owned maquiladoras nearby. In the midst of this, he meets Delía who opens him up to a new way of thinking, until the day when Delía gets ‘disappeared’ on her way to work. The repercussions taken against Memo when he tries to get her back leave him reeling, wondering how can he enact justice against a force that has no face?
