In 1833 the great plague killed over 4 million people in Britain alone, later in the reign of Queen Victoria the plague returned even worse than before. Most believed this was the end of the world, a punishment from God, our Armageddon. Set in York 1833, 'Masque' tells the story of the favoured few survivors who have locked themselves in a country manor in order to escape the plague. The short film takes place after eight weeks of quarantine, when the lord of the manor Edmond Kane (Ben Hood) believes he has found a cure to the terrible disease. A masquerade ball is being held in the main hall as a celebration and a sign of respect to those who have passed. Little do the survivors realise death is right at their doorstep, slowly creeping in.
