An upside down seascape. The sea laps at the sand. The sky is vast.
River Ames (24) is a hearing child of deaf adults and is brother to two younger deaf siblings, Emmet (18) and Enola (6). After six years away from his family he arrives late to the will reading for his parents who have recently died. Arriving at their inherited beach house, Emmet has mixed feelings about Rivers unexpected return and Enola has never met him. Emmet struggles to understand why River had left while Enola decides to free her pet fish in the sea. Enola notices River and they share a moment. Realising their responsibilities for their sister the brothers decide to have a race on the beach with Enola. Competeing the brothers fail to notice Enola has fallen. They go back to her and sit with her side by side. Enola watches the sea.
