Beneath the Skin presents a modern perspective on homophobic and bullying issues in a realistic situation revolving around student Joshua and tattooist Jay, presenting not just the support from their friends Elijah, Sam and Rosalie but also the negativity from bullies Kaitlyn and Zac. The film embodies a romantic connection between two young men allowing the film's specific audience to discover a deeper and more personal connection with the characters who are experiencing the same tough issues they themselves have encountered.
