About me
James trained with the National Youth Theatre of Great Britain and at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art. He has worked in Repertory theatre in many cities including: Birmingham, Southampton, Cambridge, Worcester, Salisbury, Manchester, Scarborough, (for Alan Ayckbourn), Nottingham, Leicester and Liverpool. He toured the UK and the Far East playing Benedick in Much Ado About Nothing for the Oxford Stage Company. He spent three years with the Royal Shakespeare Company at Stratford on Avon, the Barbican and touring abroad, playing a variety of roles including Gratiano in the Merchant of Venice, Lysander in A Midsummer Night's Dream and Richmond in Richard III.James has worked for Kenneth Branagh's Renaissance Theatre Company playing, Titus Lartius, in Coriolanus and Sir Andrew Aguecheek in Twelfth Night and at the Royal National Theatre in Alan Ayckbourn's, Mr. A's Amazing Maze Plays. He has appeared as Jack Absolute in The Rivals in the West End and played Kipps in the long running West End and International hit, The Woman in Black. James played the Player King in Trevor Nunn's production of, 'Hamlet' at the Old Vic.
For Tour de Force, a theatre company of which he was Associate Artistic Director, he has appeared in Beckett's, 'Play' at the Riverside Studios, and played the title role in, Vortigern at the Bridewell Theatre. He has played Henry V, Macbeth and Benedick at the Arundel Festival.
James has recently completed three years, playing over 1000 performances as 'Scar' in Disney's, 'The Lion King,' at the Lyceum Theatre in the West End.
On television James has been seen in many shows including, 'The Professionals', 'The Gentle Touch', 'Rumpole of the Bailey', 'The Bill', 'Hannay', 'Just William', 'Chancer', 'Soldier Soldier', BBC Shakespeare Series, 'Silent Witness', 'The Alchemists', 'Grown Up's', 'Gypsy Girl', and as Adam Hope in CITV's 'Animal Ark'. He played DC Collins in Lynda la Plante's 'Trial and Retribution' and was Dr. Thompson in EastEnders.
His film credits include Kenneth Branagh's 'Henry V' and 'The Whistleblower' and 'Blue Ice' with Michael Caine. Most recently he appeared in The 'Confession' directed by Tanel Toom, which has just won the 'Oscar' for Best Foreign Student Film 2010. He is shooting The Death of Merlin, at present.
He has been a member of the BBC Radio Repertory Company where his broadcasts have included, Don Quixote, Great Expectations, Macbeth, Citizens, War and Peace and Hamlet.

James has worked as a director both here and in the U.S.A. He was an assistant director of the National Youth Theatre of Great Britain for four years and Associate Artistic Director of Tour de Force for five years working at the Arundel Festival. His directing credits include 'A Midsummer Night's Dream', 'The Mysteries' and 'Maria Marten - The Murder in the Red Barn' in Connecticut and New York and A Midsummer Nights Dream for the Arundel Festival. He is also Assistant Director on Bizet's, Carmen at the Royal Albert Hall and the O2, for Raymond Gubbay Productions. He has recently worked on Handel's Xerxes for Iford Arts. He has just directed, Verdi's 'La Traviata' for Pop-up Opera.
In the corporate sector James has worked extensively as a workshop leader, facilitator and teacher. Tour de Force worked closely with Arts and Business and corporate clients have included, Birds Eye Walls, EDS, West Sussex County Council and Barclays Bank. He has led sessions on creative thinking in the workplace, communication and presentation skills, 'roleplay' and the use of special skills. He has worked in schools and colleges both here and in the USA, directing productions and leading workshops and was an Associate Assistant Adjunct Professor of Theatre at Eastern Connecticut State University..
