About me
As an Architecture graduate and aspiring illustrator and set designer, I am searching for varied ways to gain experience.After graduation I worked for almost a year as the Design Department Assistant alongside the Production Designer and Prop Buyer at ITV1's This Morning programme. Working on a live show was demanding and intense but above all, it gave me a fascinating grounding of the principles of set design for camera, and a very useful insight into working as a designer in the industry, with its requirement to provide appropriate design solutions within often very tight deadlines and budgets. I have been back several times since to cover as a freelance member of the design department, assisting on the show and creating more concept art and on-screen graphics. I would love to gain further experience working in the art department on a television drama or feature film.
On moving back to Nottingham in 2012, I joined the STEP UP Creatives Ensemble 2012/13 at New Perspectives Theatre Company which was a great way to meet other aspiring theatre-makers from the East Midlands. The bonds and friendships formed during this year have proved lasting and I have worked with some of my fellow STEP UP Creatives on arts projects since, as well as working with New Perspectives Theatre on a couple of projects. Also recently I worked as a freelance member of the Creative team at Amtico for a year, where my role involved coming up with new flooring tile shapes and layouts for their Signature vinyl tile and carpet ranges. I have also been very involved in Nottingham's Lace Market Theatre since 2012, doing a lot of set painting and some designing!
Other recent work has included theatre design projects and illustration work, and I continue to apply for new opportunities and build new contacts in these fields wherever possible.
Additional skills:
Sketching design ideas quickly;
Scenic art/set painting;
Mural painting;
Technical drawing;
Set dressing;
Graphics/illustration;
Working to a brief, extracting the information and applying to design solutions - this is a skill learnt through the study of architecture, but could be applied to extracting information from scripts etc. to formulate a design for a set.
