His initial years as a documentary cameraman included several stints in Kashmir, covering the impact of civil war and strife on the mental health of its people, “Kashmir Unhinged” (Dir. Tassaduq and Rajesh Jhala, 11 mins. 1996). “Charar e Sharif Besieged” when Pakistani and Afghani militants under Major Mast Gul Hizbul Mujahideen take over a town of the patron saint of Kashmir. (Dir. George Joseph, 24 mins BiTV 1996). “No Young Suitors” the civil unrest, arrests and deaths in Kashmir make it very difficult for Nazira to find a young groom (Dir. George Joseph, 24 mins BiTV, 1997)
Between 2001 - 2003 Sachin traveled and filmed several documentaries highlighting the plight of people under siege or civil war in Israel-Palestine, in Oceania “Cross Currents: A Fijian Travelogue” (Dir. Vibodh Parathasarthi, 52 mins 2001) on the ethnic conflict between Native Fijians and immigrant Indians, after a coup removed the democratically elected PM, Mr. Mahendra Choudhary because he was of Indian origin.
His last two documentaries once again raises concerns about our ecology and environment “The Eco Warriors of the Himalayas” celebrates the province of Sikkim turning to 100% organic farming and contrasts it with the relatively slow growth of organic farming in Germany. (Berndt Welz, 28 mins ZDF 2018) and “Stop Plastic” (Dir. vonYves Schurzmann, 28 mins ZDF 2019)
Feature Releases Never satisfied, enthusiastic to collaborate with Directors and Producers wanting to squeeze out the human experience of our existence. This has nudged Sachin to work on 5 feature films.
His Indi-features have received much critical acclaim, and also for his cinematography. “Hansa” (Dir. Manav Kaul, 2012) was awarded FRIPSCI Award at OSIAN’S CINEFAN 2012, while “A Gran Plan” (Dir. Sangeeta Nambiar, 2014) received awards in festivals at Los Angeles, New York, and Delhi. “Hansa” is set in the Himalayas, a young girl tries to locate her missing father while her mother is about to give birth once again and their house is about to be auctioned..
"A Gran Plan" was his first international collaboration as a DoP, it was shot exclusively in Singapore and released in theatres there. Revolving around interpersonal and cultural conflicts and friendship, it features a Chinese single mother parent of twins from a British father, a Punjabi Grand mother and her son who is married to a Bengali…
His latest "G Kutta Se or The Heart is a Dog” (Dir. Rahul Dahiya, 2017) is a serious indictment on patriarchy and honour killings, G Kutta Se went to MAMI Gold and is fast becoming a cult film in India.
A film critic wrote “Be warned. G Kutta Se is not an easy film to watch. The camera (Sachin Singh) moves like a seething predator through the rugged landscape combing hearts and loins for signs of fugitive compassion. This fuming film stomps resolutely on all our cinematic perceptions to give us a fresh imminent and extremely disconcerting view of reality at the grassroots level.“ https://www.sify.com/movies/g-kutta-se-review-a-bludgeoning-masterpiece--review-bollywood-rgpmDphegadee.html
