Any age is a good time to grow up

Thomas' wife died a few years ago leaving him to a mundane routine of waiting to get up and waiting to go back to bed, he no longer has contact with his children. Lifeless and lonely Thomas has a job at the youth centre cleaning on evenings. He meets a young volunteer called Jack, with whom he unintentionally becomes friends. Jack gives him a new energy for life as Thomas encourages Jack to take risks. After a bad fall, Thomas goes to hospital and realizes how isolated he is from his family is when he signs Jack as his next of kin. Thomas becomes a father figure for Jack who encourages him to get back in contact with his family.
