Carrie Fisher will be in Star Wars Episode 9 after death, Mark Hamill pays tribute with these words
Star Wars: Episode 9 will see the late Carrie Fisher return to a galaxy far, far away one last time.
After Fisher passed away in December 2016, aged 60, Star Wars fans speculated how the series would deal with the death of the beloved actress.
Her character, Princess Leia Organa, has been at the very heart of the Star Wars universe since the first film was released in 1977.
Grieving colleagues and fans around the world gave an outpouring of love when Fisher died of a heart attack before filming for Star Wars: Episode 9 began.
Thanks to previously unused footage, Princess Leia Organa’s story will conclude in the next film.
The news was announced Friday, July 27 after Fisher’s daughter, Billie Lourd gave her blessing, according to a studio release.
Director J.J Abrams released a statement saying: “We desperately loved Carrie Fisher. Finding a truly satisfying conclusion to the Skywalker Saga without her eluded us.
“We were never going to recast, or use a CG character. With the support and blessing from her daughter, Billie, we have found a way to honor Carrie’s legacy and role as Leia in Episode IX by using unseen footage we shot together in Episode VII.”
Two days after the Lucasfilm studio announcement, Luke Skywalker actor Mark Hamill, who was a dear friend to Fisher, posted his own response on Twitter.
“It’s bittersweet facing my final chapter without her. She is simply irreplaceable.
“I’m finding solace in the face that she won’t BE replaced & would love the worldwide outpouring of affection from those who loved her when they heard the news. #CarrieOnForever.”
Hamill also shared several photos of them together, throughout the years.
Lucasfilm's announcement also confirmed that Billy Dee Williams will reprise his role as Lando Calrissian and that Mark Hamill will return.
Star Wars: Episode 9 is due for release in December 2019.
