Additional information:
In my work both at Birmingham Metropolitan College and at the Old Joint Stock Theatre, and also in studying for a HND in Production Arts, I have developed a solid understanding of a great variety of theatrical equipment, and an ability to solve issues in an effective fashion. I have also developed an ability to work well with other people and achieve results while also being able to organise myself and work alone when it is necessary. Working at the Old Joint Stock, and also previously in working in Market Research, I have demonstrated strong customer skills and a professional approach in working with both people who I know well and those who I do not.
With the Old Joint Stock I was involved in taking a show, called Tea At Five, to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival for a successful run of 21 shows. I was there as Technical Manager which involved liaising with the venue before the festival and management of gear when in Edinburgh, as well as running the show technically for each performance. I also was involved in flyer distribution and marketing the show, which required excellent time management and a strong level of flexibility. All of this was done with a small team of just four, which meant we had to work very closely and in an intense environment, while also being able to work well on our own at times.
In the last year, the Old Joint Stock has been involved in setting up a sister theatre in Croydon called The Spread Eagle. For this I have been involved in and asked to help with the planning process, in terms of technical requirements, and then the set-up of the theatre. This meant helping to train staff at the new venue in the setting up and technical running of shows. A year into its life as a theatre The Spread Eagle is a well run theatre, with appropriate lighting and sound equipment for the size and shape of the venue.
I am a hard working individual and I am flexible with my working practices. I manage my time well and I am adaptable in changing my plan of action when urgent tasks need to be completed.
I am very passionate about theatre and greatly enjoy being able to contribute to the production of interesting pieces and performances. I also have a great appreciation of the need for helping younger students learn and understand different aspects of the theatre, and develop a sense of the importance of all different roles within performing arts.
