Summary Details

  • "So, a crisis, insoluble problem..." Yvan arrives late for his evening with friends Marc and Serge, and launches into a speech about the day he has had. He is immensely stressed about his stepmother being added to his wedding invitation and the reaction he has had from his mother and fiance over the situation. I have seen the speech performed many ways. The actual structure is one of a very long sentence. In fact there is only one full stop throughout it. It can be taken slowly going through every twist and turn of the situation, giving a good excuse for exploring your range of voices for the characters of the mother and fiance, or it can be taken at a quick pace, highlighting the stress behind his day and giving the sense he is approaching breaking point.
