BBC Music Sound of 2018 longlist announced

BBC Music has announced its longlist for its annual 'Sound of...' awards series.

In its 16th year, the Sound of 2018 longlist features an array of emerging talent from around the globe.

A panel of 173 music experts, made up of DJs, broadcasters and presenters, selected sixteen artists they deemed fit for the title.

The judges also include former nominees Stormzy, Years & Years' Olly Alexander, Ellie Goulding and last year's winner, Ray BLK.

The BBC Music Sound of 2018 longlist also features the youngest ever nominee – 15-year-old American pop singer Billie Eilish.

"Some acts will be brand new to UK audiences and many have already started to make an impact," said Radio 1 DJ Annie Mac.

"I can't wait to be a part of their journey and see what the year ahead has in store for them all."

The shortlist and winner will be unveiled in January on BBC Radio 1 and BBC News.

Previous "Sound of..." winners include Adele, Sam Smith, Jessie J, Haim, 50 Cent, Keane and Corrine Bailey Rae.
