Writer Anna Graham Hunter made the allegations in a guest column for The Hollywood Reporter titled "Dustin Hoffman Sexually Harassed Me When I Was 17".

She accused Hoffman, now 80, of making inappropriate comments about her, as well as groping her on the set of Death of a Salesman while she was interning.

"He asked me to give him a foot massage my first day on set; I did," Hunter wrote.

"He was openly flirtatious, he grabbed my ass, he talked about sex to me and in front of me.

"One morning I went to his dressing room to take his breakfast order; he looked at me and grinned, taking his time.

"Then he said, "I'll have a hard-boiled egg...and a soft-boiled clitoris.'

"His entourage burst out laughing. I left, speechless. Then I went to the bathroom and cried."

Dustin Hoffman responded to the article, saying: "I have the utmost respect for women and feel terrible that anything I might have done could have put her in an uncomfortable situation. I am sorry. It is not reflective of who I am."

This comes just days after actor Kevin Spacey was accused of unwanted sexual advances by actor Anthony Rapp.

Spacey swiftly took to social media to release a statement saying he was "beyond horrified" by the allegations and also announced that he would now "live as a gay man".

Golden Globe-winning show House of Cards has been cancelled as a result.

Earlier today, director and producer Brett Ratner (Rush Hour, X-Men: The Last Stand) was accused of sexual misconduct by six women.

Actress Natasha Henstridge alleged that Ratner "physically forced himself" on her and "at some point, I gave in and he did his thing."

Ratner's attorney, Martin Singer, said in a statement: "I have represented Mr. Ratner for two decades, and no woman has ever made a claim against him for sexual misconduct or sexual harassment.

"Furthermore, no woman has ever requested or received any financial settlement from my client."
