The best-selling music industry artists of 2017 revealed by BPI

The British Phonographic Industry has released statistics for the highest sales figures of 2017 for the UK music business.

Ed Sheeran topped every chart, including best-selling album, with the record-breaking smash hit ‘÷’. 

He was also the most streamed artist overall this year and had the best-selling single with 'Shape of You.'

Over 61.8 billion songs were streamed in 2017 making it the biggest year for online streaming in music history.

135.1 million albums "or their equivalent" were streamed last year seeing a 9.5 per cent growth on 2016.

British artists were well represented, making up eight of the top 10, with Liam Gallagher, Sam Smith and Stormzy all placing highly.
