Actor CEO

This climate can be an extremely difficult time for performers, for financial reasons especially. The founder of Empire Tax Prep (a company that specializes in tax for artists) has put live a free online workshop, dedicated to helping artists understand their tax situation during this pandemic. CDC

The Center for Disease Control and Prevention regularly publish important information on their website and of course, these trying times are no different. Saf Aftra

The SAG-AFTRA Motion Picture Players Welfare Fund (SAG-AFTRA MPPWF) provides emergency financial assistance and enhances the welfare, training, education and artistic life of the performer. Visit their website to find out if you are eligible for their emergency financial assistance.


BKLYN Library

The beloved Brooklyn Public Library has closed its doors in the current pandemic, but you can still enjoy and benefit from some of their services. They are encouraging patrons to use their digital resources, which can still provide hours of fun for children and families, as well as key educational materials in these times. Equity

Actors’ Equity Association has launched an emergency “Curtain Up Fund”. They have issued a grant to the Actors Fund, helping members who have lost work because of the COVID-19 shutdown to get back on their feet financially. The union is contributing $500,000 to start the fund and will match another $250,000 in contributions from other donors. Click here to find out more about the fund.


NYC Health

As you know, the NYC Government is urging people to stay at home as much as possible. You should only leave your house to shop for basic necessities, if you have any medical needs and or travel to and from work. Zoom

What better way to pass the time when self-isolating than by working on how you can advance your career? Every week, join Jesse Malinowski for a free Zoom session as he is joined by an influential figure in our industry. He will soon be joined by huge casting directors, such as Meagan Lewis, who has worked on feature films 12 Years a Slave and The Big Short, and Mark Fincannon, who has cast for The Blind Side and Nashville.


Binder Casting

Binder Casting was founded nearly 30 years ago and has cast over 80 Broadway productions, as well as feature films, commercials and episodic television. They are hosting Q&As on their Facebook page live with industry experts from various backgrounds, such as actors, directors, choreographers and many more. Broadway Dreams

Broadway Dreams is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit performing arts education organization with programs year-round. They are hosting live classes on Zoom and you can find the complete programs and daily schedule on their Facebook page.


Course

The purpose of this "Artist Business and Goals Roadmap" course is to introduce the basics of business goals and strategies for artists, as they transition from hobbyist to professional in the industry. This course is now free during the COVID-19 response period, ensuring artists can use the time they've gained from cancelled events to build a stronger career foundation. Sew Mask

Based in Hudson Valley, NY, Sew Masks is a volunteer collaborative made up of Hudson Valley Actors, Film Creatives and other locals who are quickly coordinating a Protective Mask Making Initiative in the region. Their goal is to ensure that the masks can be delivered directly to those who are most in need, working within clinical settings, and distributing additional masks to essential infrastructure workers. This Facebook group provides dedicated community support for professionals in the film and TV industry who have concerns about their health and their jobs, in the local and tri state area. The Freelance Artist Resource Producing Collective is a responsive project, and they manage the Covid-19 Freelance Artists Resource website. Actors' Equity Under 40 is an unofficial Facebook group committed to engaging, encouraging and empowering Equity’s newest generation of members and its next generation of leaders. Broadway Jackbox

Following a successful March 13 launch, the now twice-weekly live event Broadway Jackbox features Broadway personalities playing games from developer Jackbox Games while raising much-needed funds for The Actors Fund during the coronavirus pandemic. You can join them on Twitch TV.

Time Out

Despite the majority of sporting events coming to a halt, you can still feel close to the action during the pandemic, but this time it’s a little different. SAG AFTRA

Representing over 160,000 creative professionals in the industry, SAG-AFTRA has recently released an urgent safety notice to all members. Due to the global pandemic, they urge members to not return to work under an existing contract or accept a contract for new employment without first securing the approval of the union. Lionsgate is a giant in the entertainment industry and they have released their safety guidelines, regarding new productions. The document is an effort to protect our cast and crew from the spread of COVID-19, and they continue to establish new policies and practices to provide a safe working environment for all productions. Pen America

PEN America’s mission is to ensure people everywhere have the freedom and access to create literature and express their ideas. Their dedicated members consist of journalists, nonfiction writers, playwrights and more. They are expanding their long-standing Writers’ Emergency Fund, recognising that writers in this climate may not be able to support themselves, and offering grants of up to $1,000 to professionals who need them most. PWGA

The Producers Writers Guild of America Pension and Health Plans offer an abundance of help and resources concerning pension benefits, health protections and much more. As you can imagine, they are working through an extremely busy period and, although their office is closed, all employees will work from home and continue their dedicated work. Writers Guild of America

WGAE is a labor union representing thousands of members who write content for motion pictures, television, news and digital media. The Guild stands ready to advise and represent writers who have questions about workplace safety, or about contractual or employment rights in these extraordinary circumstances. The International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees, Moving Picture Technicians, Artists and Allied Crafts of the United States, Its Territories and Canada represents many behind-the-scenes workers in crafts ranging from motion picture animator to theater usher. Ann Arbor Film Festival

The Ann Arbor Film Festival is the oldest avant-garde and experimental film festival in North America. The six-day festival usually presents 40 programs with more than 180 films from over 20 countries of all lengths and genres, but this year is of course a little different. Film Festival Alliance

Film Festival Alliance creates a collaborative global community for mission-driven film festivals. FFA works year-round to celebrate and support the art of film, filmmaking and film presentation by connecting festival professionals with one another, and with other industry stakeholders including the greater filmmaking community. Their in-person events will no longer go ahead during the current climate, and in place will be a series of Virtual Roundtable video conversations. Hollywood Support Staff

Hollywood Support Staff is a fund established to provide approved applicants with a one-time stipend to minimize financial hardship caused by recent work stoppages in the entertainment industry. Equity

Actors’ Equity Association has launched an emergency “Curtain Up Fund”. They have issued a grant to the Actors Fund, helping members who have lost work because of the COVID-19 shutdown to get back on their feet financially. Woodstocl Film Festival

Woodstock Film Festival has recently celebrated its 20th anniversary and they continue to provide insightful content for their audience. Ann Arbor Film Festival

The Ann Arbor Film Festival is the oldest avant-garde and experimental film festival in North America. The six-day festival usually presents 40 programs with more than 180 films from over 20 countries of all lengths and genres, but this year is of course a little different. The 58th AAFF will be presented as a free live-streamed six-day event, showcasing short and feature films in competition entirely online. Film Festival Alliance

Film Festival Alliance creates a collaborative global community for mission-driven film festivals. FFA works year-round to celebrate and support the art of film, filmmaking and film presentation by connecting festival professionals with one another, and with other industry stakeholders including the greater filmmaking community. Their in-person events will no longer go ahead during the current climate, and in place will be a series of Virtual Roundtable video conversations. Hollywood Support Staff is a fund established to provide approved applicants with a one-time stipend to minimize financial hardship caused by recent work stoppages in the entertainment industry. These modest stipends are meant to provide immediate relief to support staff who have recently lost work and income due to COVID-19-related shut downs. Time Out

Despite the majority of sporting events coming to a halt, you can still feel close to the action during the pandemic, but this time it’s a little different.
