    The Demon Headmaster is a series of books written by Gillian Cross between 1982 and 2002, which have been adapted for theatre in various versions. Published stage versions include:

    "Demon Headmaster: Play" by Adrian Flynn published by Oxford University Press in 1990, part of a series of dramatisations of well-known novels, selected for Key Stage 3 students.

    "The Demon Headmaster: A Musical" with book by Paul James, lyrics by Iain Halstead and Paul James, and music by Eric Angus and Cathy Shostak. Originally developed in workshop at the Royal National Theatre's studio in 1997 and premièred at The Pleasance Theatre, London, followed by a national tour in 1999. The libretto was published by Samuel French in 2001.

    The pupils of St Campion's Comprehensive, ultra-disciplined exam machines, are devoted to their headmaster. But something strange is going on and the worst class in the world — 6Z — are going to get to the bottom of this mystery and expose the demon headmaster!
