  • Overview
Susan Traherne is an Englishwoman who, at 17, was a courier for the French Resistance behind German lines. Idealistically Susan believes that the values of the Resistance will follow into the next era, but she finds herself meandering through mindless jobs and relationships, realising that England may be a land of plenty, but one that is morally bankrupt. As she descends into madness, her relationship with her husband, a Foreign Service officer, falls apart.
