About me
I have been a FOH sound engineer for over 7 years. During the last 3 years, however, I have worked as a Media Technician in a media equipment hire facility. During this period I still continued to sound engineer, during my spare time, on Friday and Saturday nights at a variety of venues, including O2 Islington Academy, Shambala Festival, Vortex Jazz Club, Reading Football Club Jazz Bar, Bar Music Hall (London), Last Days of Decadence (London) & various private venues and weddings. As media technician my role was to prep, service, maintain and support a range of professional broadcast equipment, from cameras and lights to sound and editing suites.
I am also able to teach clients how to operate newly released equipment and software without difficulty.
I have now turned fully freelance and wish to pursue a full time career as a FOH sound engineer / sound technician.
I can engineer all styles of music and am fully aware of the potential problems each style can create.
In my own time I repair musical and audio equipment including all the models of the 1210 Technics Turntable series, a variety of DJ Mixers and mixing desks, outboard effects units, power amps and internal speaker crossovers. I have developed a way of retro fitting piezo microphones inside mellodicas and violins. Several performers now prefer this system over close miking.
Over the past four years I have installed custom sound systems in several venues. I also act as an evening call out maintenance engineer for a pub chain.
As a bass player I am competent in the setup and maintenance of guitars, amps and pedal board rigs. I also have some experience as a drum tech.
I have a working knowledge of both PC and Mac OS platforms and am able to offer technical support for both software and hardware problems.
I have demonstrated my resourcefulness when equipment has failed at critical times either during live performances or during video shoots, by quickly identifying problems and finding a work around.
I am fully aware of current H&S guidelines, regarding assessing loads before lifting and electrical safety. I also understand the regular need to PAT test all electrical equipment. I am able to work at height and have had to fly speakers and lights both in venues and outdoors.
When I sound engineer, I ensure that all equipment is functioning properly, including sound desks, outboard and monitoring, that the speaker system is safely secured and that there are no trip hazards on or around the stage before bands setup.
I am competent in PAT testing and follow safe working practices when working with and around electrical appliances and installations.
I am currently learning the MagicQ lighting software platform to further
my skills in this area.
Additional skills:
Clean Driving license - experience of driving LWB vehicles.
