About me
I've played electric/acoustic guitars professionally since 1983. Performing primarily in 1960s/'70s inspired rock/folk/Psychedelia bands in the North of England. In 1993 I moved to Galway city and fell in love with the music scene. Playing on the street and in city centre pubs, at house parties and exhibitions was a great education in Irish traditional music and I got to see how contemporary musicians were using that and mixing it up with other styles and instruments.
Studying human evolution got me thinking about the special role of music in human history and a broad interest in musical traditions from around the world.
In 2007 I completed a placement on a Digital City (Middlesbrough) mentoring scheme to provide original music for a film project 'Shooting Time' which went on to be shown at numerous venues throughout UK.
Meanwhile, I also felt I needed to strengthen my understanding of digital processing and production. I developed a home studio and collaborated on other projects: University/Arts Council information film, backing tracks for goth singers and providing samples for independent filmmakers.
I have what I consider to be a strong artistic sensibility; having attended technical design and fine art courses, set up art exhibitions, and helped to design/construct a Christian/Celtic Mythopoeic Experience (museum) in the Republic of Ireland.
I'm looking to provide characterful music and inspiring sounds for weird and wonderful audio visual projects.
