For nearly a decade, Robert Woodhall has been booking roles through Mandy—proof that persistence and professionalism pay off.
His motivation has always been clear. “I want to embody a character and bring them to life. I want to entertain an audience and have them feel richer for having experienced my performance—I want to move them.”
That dedication has carried him from his base in the West Midlands—where he admits “there can be a definite challenge due to a general lack of opportunities”—into productions as varied as A Christmas Carol, Porridge, Salt and Pepper, Kintsugi, Slapnuts, and Confetti.
Why Mandy?
“I’ve been using Mandy for nine years and I have played some amazing characters in some incredible productions,” he said. “I’ve also met some wonderful fellow creatives—that keeps me coming back.”
His advice for new talent is rooted in that same openness. “Fully embrace the website, have as good a profile as possible and say yes to everything you realistically can—it will lead to amazing experiences and opportunities.”
Preparing to embody the role
For Woodhall, preparation is as much about mindset as it is about memorization. “I get very familiar with the script and character and I am determined to be the best version of myself and the character that I can be,” he explained. “Over time I have become more determined to fully embody the character.”
That sense of determination has grown with each audition, each project, and each new creative challenge.
Building relationships that last
He believes professionalism is the foundation for everything that follows.
“I am polite, friendly, and above all else professional—this helps me to form and maintain lasting relationships with the creatives I meet,” Woodhall said.
He values the moments when the craft and camaraderie align. “My favourite on set stories are when I have a great laugh but also produce some amazing and memorable work.”
Lessons from the hard parts
Woodhall has learned to see setbacks as part of the process.
When things get difficult, he leans on the mindset that’s kept him working for nearly a decade: “To believe in myself and accept the setbacks and appreciate the opportunities and to just never give up or give in.”
And when motivation runs thin, he turns to external inspiration. “Any online acting coaches and inspirational online videos…motivate me to carry on.”
His message to others starting out
“Hang in there and believe in yourself and your dream,” he said. “Train of course but never give up and always back yourself because there will be tough times when you want to throw in the towel.”
It’s the same determination that’s kept him active for nearly a decade on Mandy—and the same energy he brings to every role.
