About me
Raised in Southern Maryland, Alison began her theatre career when she took the big stage in high school and quickly discovered she enjoyed the backstage opportunities even more. Upon graduating high school Alison started her first part time job and began taking classes at her local community college. She was soon taking many drawing classes and began to focus more on her first early passion, art. A wonderful art professor took up interest in Alison and one day handed her a brochure for an art school in Philadelphia. He said to her "You need to keep doing what you're doing but you need to do it someplace else!"Best advice ever given! Deciding to take a leap and find a way to mix art and theatre, Alison applied to the University of the Arts and soon went to Philadelphia for an interview with the Dean of the School of Theater Arts. She was accepted into the brand new program for Theater Design and Technology. At UArts Alison excelled in costuming and wardrobe and had the opportunity to meet and work with a long list of successful designers in and around the Philadelphia area, such as Barrymore Award winners Richard St. Clair, Aaron Cromie and Millie Hiibel. Outside of school she also began making friends in film and from there continued to practice makeup design. Student films led to independent films which have landed on Netflix, iTunes and Amazon.
Alison graduated as part of the first class to receive a BFA in Theater Design and Technology from the University of the Arts in 2008. Following graduation was non-stop whirlwind of designing while also working in wardrobe & wig styling gigs around the city. She has designed for theater companies such as Azuka, Luna, New Paradise Laboratories, Aspire Arts, Theater Revolution and Rutgers University as well as being asked back to design for UArts. She worked on shows featured in the Philadelphia Fringe Festival and the Philadelphia Gay & Lesbian Theater Festival.
In the summer of 2010, she relocated to the greater Washington DC area and began taking wardrobe jobs at theaters such as: Signature, Shakespeare and Arena. While slowly gaining speed and getting to know the DC theatre community, she has designed numerous productions in the Capitol Fringe Fest which soon led to other companies such as Creative Cauldron, American Century and Keegan Theatre.
Currently Alison is the Head of Wardrobe at Signature Theater in Arlington,VA and freelance designing around DC!
