About me
Worked in publishing for 10 years, first as a Picture Researcher, then as an Editor and Managing Editor. Since the birth of my first child I have done some freelance publishing work, but have mainly stayed at home with my three children. Now that they are older I would like to go back to work. Having been involved in various amateur productions first at the children's schools and then at the City Lit, I decided to retrain so as to enter the theatre industry professionally. Since doing my level 2 BTEC in Production Arts three years ago, and then the level 3 BTEC this year, I have learnt about the various roles of the backstage hierarchy, and have DSM’d a number of plays. The skills of multi-tasking and managing a diverse team of people, which I then took to new heights when bringing up my three children and running a home, are exactly those which are required by a good DSM. To note, great organisation, ability to multitask, ability to remain calm under pressure and make instant decisions in stressful conditions (when things go wrong), ability to communicate with a number of people with different priorities and demands and on different levels, attention to detail and ability to keep in mind the greater picture, so as to be able to make quick changes when required to do so and ability to concentrate for sustained period of times on every aspect of a production.I have loved being back at work and immersing myself in the theatre as part of a team creating a production. Both the creative and the collective aspects are what really attract me to the industry, and given my particular set of skills I feel I could make a really strong contribution.
