About me
I am currently a finalist at Durham University studying for a BA (Hons) in Education and Psychology. I am an enthusiastic, conscientious and motivated person with very strong communication and interpersonal skills. I have the ability to work effectively both independently and as a member of a team and can successfully adapt to a diverse range of environments. Since being at University, I have learnt how to successfully meet strict academic deadlines and consistently produce high quality pieces of work whilst also balancing my passion for drama and theatre by being involved in 14 different high quality productions in two years. After university, I wish to pursue a career where I can build on the knowledge and skills that I have developed since being a student at Durham, but most importantly, continue challenging and stretching myself in whatever path I may follow.Additional skills:
WORK EXPERIENCE
June 2016. - SAGE Publications Ltd, London.
In June, I secured an internship working as an Editorial Assistant in the Education Department at SAGE Publications Ltd in London. I was required to work in a team of six others where we worked together to ensure that books were edited efficiently and accurately in a short time scale. I was personally responsible for corresponding with authors whose books were being published by SAGE in order to advise them of the editorial status of their book, editing the books themselves in compliance with standard SAGE editorial procedure and expectations, and carrying out various forms of extra research that could be included in the books, such as useful contact details of current academics who work in a specific field related to Education.
August 2014. - Ashford Colour Press, Gosport.
I worked in a printing factory with various other team members to produce high quality educational products. The work was predominantly manual labour, including book binding and box packing.
VOLUNTEER WORK
March 2012 - March 2014. - Express FM, Portsmouth
I volunteered for 3 hours a week as a radio host and voice over artist at my local radio station, regularly working with others to produce high quality radio programmes that are appropriate for listeners of all ages. I predominantly interviewed guest artists including local bands, musicians, and most notably, Matt from ‘You Me At Six.’ Voice over work included recording various adverts and upcoming events.
September 2012 - June 2014. - Portsmouth High School, Portsmouth
Worked with aged 11-13 year old pupils for one hour week, helping them improve their performance skills and vocational abilities.
All of my work experience has been heavily team based, in which I have learned to work with small and large groups of people with a diverse range of ages. Throughout my experiences, I have also been given leadership responsibility in various situations, learning to successfully cooperate efficiently and respectfully with people both younger and older than myself. Having both paid and unpaid work experience has taught me valuable time management, teamwork and leadership skills, in which I have developed strong organisational, problem solving and cooperative abilities.

INTERESTS
Theatre and Drama. The majority of my time outside of my University studies is spent on theatre and drama. Before University, I regularly took part in both school and amateur youth theatre productions, performing in over 40 shows since the age of 3, leading me to be awarded with a Drama Scholarship at my Sixth Form. Since beginning my course at Durham in September 2014, I have already been involved in 14 different productions, both non-musicals and musicals, and I hope to add to this number in the forthcoming year. In May 2016, I was elected as Secretary for Durham University Light Opera Group (DULOG), the largest theatre based society at Durham University with over 150 members. The society is also nationally recognised, having scooped up 8 awards at the National Student Drama Festival (NSDF) for our productions of “The Addams Family” and “Kiss Me, Kate’ including the award for “Outstanding Contribution to NSDF.” The role of Secretary demands excellent organisational, planning and communication skills, as it entails working alongside an Executive Committee of 8 other members, in which we collaborate to choose shows to put on in our local 400 seat theatre and set up events for society members. In August 2016, I attended the Edinburgh Fringe Festival for the second time. Having previously performed in DULOGs 17 night sell-out production of “The Bakewell Bakeoff (2015), this year I attended with a group of other students to put on an original musical written by Durham graduates - “The Princes’ Quest.”
Music. In my penultimate year of school, I managed to secure a Grade 8 in Classical Singing, Grade 5 in Piano and Grade 5 in Music Theory. As a result of these achievement, I was awarded with a Music Scholarship alongside by Drama Scholarship at my Sixth Form for outstanding contribution to music and theatre. This gave me the opportunity to work with younger children in order to build upon their performance skills and boost their confidence. Gaining these scholarships enabled me to use my own skills to learn how to develop the same skills in those younger than myself who shared the same passion and interests.
Teaching. Over the years, I have taken on various roles during the beginning of my summer holidays in which I go to local schools for 2 weeks and assist teachers in classroom activities. These roles entailed helping primary and secondary school children who had difficulty in Mathematics, Science and English. I am also able to communicate and work effectively with youngsters who have special educational needs. From working in a school with adults and children, I am able to communicate well with people of all ages, with different abilities, and am able to adapt to their social needs or requirements if needed.
