About me
Having just started my career in stage management, I am currently looking for further opportunities to work in professional theatre, in order to enhance the skills I have developed through my involvement in local fringe and community theatre. This previous experience has shown how my naturally organised and calm, personable manner combines effectively with the leadership and initiative required of a stage manager. This has enabled me to oversee varying sizes of cast and crew, as well as learn and adapt efficiently to meet the demands of the theatrical environment I am working in.Additional skills:
Through my experience of stage management so far, I have been involved in: basic lighting and sound operation; prop making and sourcing; set painting and construction; undertaking on-book tasks in rehearsals; and general stage management duties during performance such as prop handling, set and costume changes in a variety of performance spaces including open air theatre. I also have previous experience as a production manager, undertaking administrative tasks, drawing up rehearsal schedules and taking control of budgeting on a production.
My experience in stage management has primarily involved working with Sussex-based community theatre companies such as the New Venture Theatre and The Wick Theatre Company. Previous productions at these venues include: The Winterling (Jan 2020), Short Play Festival (July 2019), Pickwick and Weller (April 2019), Laundry and Bourbon/Lone Star (Jan 2019), Be My Baby (Dec 2018), The Tempest (June 2018); Jumpy (June 2018), 1984 (Brighton Fringe Production, May 2018); True West (Jan 2018); Anna Christie (Nov 2017); Brief Encounter (Oct 2017); Short Play Festival (July 2017); Proof (June 2017) and The Deep Blue Sea (March 2017).
In March 2020, I will undertake my first deputy stage manager role for the Southwick Players' production of The Elephant Man in West Sussex.
Referees:
Dennis Cumming, director. Mad About The Boy. Rialto Theatre, Brighton Fringe Festival 2018
(Contact details and/or a reference from Dennis are available on request)
Rod Lewis, artistic director, New Venture Theatre (Contact details and/or a reference from Rod are available on request)
Additional information:
As my experience of stage management so far has been purely practical, gathered through my continued involvement in local theatrical productions, I am very keen to expand my knowledge of stage management from those currently working in professional theatre. I would therefore be very keen to shadow stage managers who are happy to provide educational training 'on the job', in order for me to improve my understanding of the more technical aspects of stage management, as well as the administrative side of the role.
I am also currently working on improving my technical understanding of lighting and sounding design, as well as rigging, by shadowing tech professionals, and welcome any opportunities to do so.
