About me
After completing a Fine Art degree and Masters in Research in Art and Design in Liverpool John Moore's University, I realised I wanted to involve myself as much as possible with theatre and performances. This led me to do a 6-month apprenticeship with Hope Street Limited in Liverpool as a designer and prop maker. This gave me the opportunity to work in various venues around Liverpool, such as the Unity Theatre and The Tate Liverpool.Hope Street Limited was vital for giving me the chance to see what it is actually like to be involved in the production process, such as working to tight deadlines and with a wide variety of people. Dedication, flexibility and commitment are very important to make sure a production is completed and is a success. The apprenticeship also meant I was able to work with designers and producers that were already established in the industry, who were then able to pass on to me their knowledge and ideas.
I have also done a lot of volunteering over the years to improve my employability and experience. Some examples are as an usher at the Black-E in Liverpool, who arrange productions and performances. Also a charity group called InAnotherPlace based in Crosby, who I have done design, prop and costume work. I have also worked as a stage hand, props maker (which also involved sourcing materials and props), designer and stage manager assistant with Tell Tale Theatre, a theatre group based in Liverpool.
My volunteering experience and apprenticeship has had me working backstage and front of house, so I am understanding of the important parts that each play in making something a success and how communication is vital. Ongoing volunteering I take part in is with DaDa Live, a theatre group for young disabled and deaf people, where they take part in weekly workshops gaining valuable experience and skills in the arts to create exciting performances.
