About me
I'm a Fashion Design with Business Studies Graduate (The University of Brighton). Throughout my studies have developed a strong passion for costume design, where my work has been heavily influenced by characters and costumes. I aim to build on my fashion skills, into costume design and work my way up, learning and building on my knowledge in a variety of projects. From Film and TV to commercials to Theatre.Since my early years at school I have always enjoyed being creative, my interests were in Fine Art and Textiles. Progressing into my College years I became interested in fashion, studying at Hastings College for 2-3 years a Foundation Degree in Fashion. This lead me later to take a 3year Degree course at the University of Brighton in Fashion with Business Studies. During this period, my interest in fashion developed into an interest in costume design. So much so, my Graduate Collection was inspired by Film period costumes and my Dissertation was based around costumusing characters for motion pictures.
During my education at the University of Brighton, I gained a year in industry; from Fashion, to assisting costuming a contemporary television drama. My first placement was at McQ (Alexander McQueen) for 2 months, second was at Glyndebourne for 2 weeks in the Women's Wardrobe department, and finally with Tiger Aspect Productions for 4 months on a contempory Police procederal drama for BBC1 (Cuffs) in the costume dept. Additionally I spent 2 days in Richmond Theatre on a film trailer for a potential film. This I was asked to do (alongside another costume designer) by Scott Langridge (costume designer for Cuffs) through the trust he gained from me whilst working on the BBC1 drama.
The placement with Tiger Aspect was most beneficial to me. I enjoyed the process and experience so much so, it confirmed where I see my future. I am eager to explore further into costume design in Film and TV and further build of my experience in a variety of different projects to costuming for film, to TV to adverstising.
Additional skills:
Practical: Sewing (hand & machine), altering garments, contructing garments.
General Skills: Good time management, organised, able to work in a team or individually, self motivated.
