About me
I have always been an artistic individual and it is something I have always been very passionate about. I have a background in art and design and I achieved an A grade in my art and design GCSE whilst at school, I then went on to achieve a distinction, distinction, merit grade in my BTEC national diploma in art and design whilst I was at college. It was during my time at college that I decided I wanted to go into set design and scenic painting for the theatre. I applied for a theatre design course at Nottingham Trent University back in 2008 unfortunately, I was not accepted onto the course due to my lack of experience. I waited a year and decided that I still wanted to pursue a career within this industry and so I applied for a fine art painting and drawing course at the University of Northampton and I was offered a place on the course. After a year of being at university though, it was apparent that the course was not for me and I left in my second year in 2010. Since then, I have been working full time within a range of different administration roles. My passion for the theatre has only grown stronger during this time and I started volunteering last year in order to gain some experience within the industry. I volunteered at The Albany Theatre in Coventry in August 2015 where I helped construct and paint part of the set for West Side Story. After this I tried to volunteer more however, as I was working full time I found it difficult to volunteer during the week and it was almost impossible to find anywhere that offered weekend hours. After months of looking, I came across an external set design company in Leicestershire and I started speaking to them about volunteering as a scenic artist. I used my annual leave in order to volunteer twice a week for the company for the duration of March and in April 2016 I was offered a part time freelance role working two days a week as a scenic artist. I am currently still working three days a week as an account manager for a bespoke packaging company however, I am looking to leave this role and find something that fits in perfectly alongside my freelance role.Additional skills:
I have basic skills within textiles, ceramics, photography, jewellery making, woodwork, graphics and print making. I have previous experience in face painting for charity events. I have a range of skills within administration and account management and I have advance knowledge of Microsoft packages including Word, Excel and Outlook and Sage.
