About me
I have good experience within 4 different theatres, working in both producing and receiving houses- The Theatre Chipping Norton, Oxfordshire; The Royal (Royal and Derngate), Northampton; Spinney Theatre, Northampton and Park Theatre, London. This has enabled me to apply and develop technical skills using familiar and new equipment. My employment at The Royal has included the rigging and positioning of lights, sound operation, sound setups, operation of digital mixing consoles, operation of monitoring on stage, as well as general maintenance and basic PAT (Portable Appliance Testing). My current employment at The Theatre Chipping Norton has largely helped develop all of these skills as well as fulfilling the role of ASM on a 90+ show run of Christmas Panto 'Aladdin'.From playing instruments at a young age, I discovered my passion for live music. This continued to grow from playing in different settings, e.g. orchestras, ensembles, and bands, at both local and county level and attaining grade 8 trombone with distinction. Studying A level music technology has enabled me to further my practical experience and build upon my theoretical understanding of processes and skills that combine within the production and manipulation of sound. Capture and techniques of instrument and microphone placement fascinate me, as does the creative control of this capture.
My current employment at as a theatre technician has enabled me to apply and develop technical skills using familiar and new equipment. This has included the rigging and positioning of lights, sound operation, stage maintenance, sound setups (PA systems, microphones, back line, etc.), operation of digital mixing consoles (Tascam and Behringer), operation of monitoring on stage, functioning in a variety of environments including outdoor local festivals, live bands and theatres in collaboration with a variety of performers spanning a multitude of performance genres. Theatre based engineering situations have enabled me to actively participate in technical production weeks and show operations (The Theatre Chipping Norton, Royal Theatre and Park Theatre). Sound design is another creative avenue I have explored, including the theatrical design for a schools based production of ‘We Will Rock You’ and a Shakespeare Schools festival production of ‘Macbeth’.
I have good experience with google docs, drive, slides etc. as well as Microsoft office packages. I also have good experience with Logic Pro X and Garageband and basic experience with Q Lab.
I am reasonably skilled with computers and software and can quickly learn how to use and master new programmes. I also recently completed the ETC ION and EOS family programming course.
I have basic health and safety training and I incorporate a common sense approach to existing health and safety policies in any workplace, and more specifically a theatre environment. Although I don’t have any official training in working at height, applying caution and logic when doing so has allowed me to increase my confidence when up ladders, zarges or a tallescope.
I am a punctual and hard worker with excellent IT and computer skills and a passion for music and music technology. I have excellent interpersonal skills and I am able to work effectively both in a team and independently. I am consistently exploring ways to gain experience and learn, and I’m always keen to try new things and progress. Quality control is fundamentally important to me, and I always ensure all work I am associated with is done to the best of my ability.
