About me
I have been involved in creating live music across many genres for over 40 years, and have been training young professionals for the arts since 1998. I first gained professional experience on touring productions in the 1970's, including "Rose Marie", "Half a Sixpence" and "Cabaret", and I have been musical director for very many youth theatre and university and theatre school productions. My most recent professional productions have been as Musical director, Berwick Festival Opera and Rocket Opera co-productions: "Dido and Aeneas" and "The Pirates of Penzance". (Summer 2014), and my most recent university production was as musical director of Sunderland University's "Into the Woods"(June 2014). I am currently musical director of Cumbria University's forthcoming production of Michael John LaChuisa's "Bernado Alba". I was a member of staff at ArtsEd London for six years and was musical director there for, among others, "A Little Night Music", "Tell me on a Sunday", "Nine", "Honk!", "West Side Story", "A Chorus Line", "Lady in the Dark" and "Cabaret". With youth theatres I have been musical director for "Oh, what a lovely war", "The Wind in the Willows", "Sweet Charity" and "My Fair Lady". In partnership with Nicholas Tudor I worked with the Graeae Company of severely disabled performers to produce two reviews. I also have considerable experience of teaching students who are on the autism spectrum.
Additional skills:
I am a skilled piano accompanist and sight reader and have been accompanying for productions, master classes (including for Maria Friedman and Ruthie Henshall) and exams, both theatre and classical, for over 40 years. I am also very experienced in jazz and popular musics and have a good working knowledge of electronic music making and recording. I am fluent in French and taught for three years at the Coservatoire de la Dordogne. I have been musical director for two productions for Lloyds Bank staff at the ExCel Centre, London and the O2 Arena, London.
