WORK EXPERIENCE:
September 2012 to July 2016 – Backstage Technician at the Egg, Theatre Royal Bath
I have participated in the backstage club at the Theatre School, Theatre Royal, Bath for four years, assisting with various productions throughout the year. My roles have included lighting technician, lighting operator, and sound operator. These roles have taught me the safe installation, testing and focussing of stage lights, creating lighting props, and lighting programming. I have also learnt set design, making and designing props, stage management, rigging and attended a flying workshop. I have enjoyed working with the team and becoming responsible for key areas when putting on productions.
July 2016 - Lighting, Sound Operator and DSM at The Arc Theatre, Trowbridge
During a show week consisting of rehearsals and two shows, I ran the shows on my own undertaking the roles of lighting and sound operation, and deputy stage management, standing in for the usual technicians. This taught me multi-tasking, problem solving skills, responsibility and working on my own.
January 2016 - Lighting Assistant, Pinewood Studios.
Working with Ziggy Jacobs-Wyburn (Lighting Designer and Programming), I assisted the lighting team at Pinewood Studios with the production of an episode of the Red Dwarf TV show. This experience highlighted to me the behind scenes work of a large TV company, and taught me problem solving, team working, interpersonal and decision making skills.
October 2014 to June 2016 - Digital Marketing Assistant, Bath ASU, Corsham.
Working within a pharmaceutical company – Bath ASU, as work experience (one day per week), I was responsible for recording and documenting the internal interviews; filming and editing footage of the new factory build; and filming Bath ASU runners in the Bath Half Marathon for YouTube. I researched differing types of new equipment to enhance the media production, and ensured the customer list within the company website was complete. I enjoyed my time with Bath ASU, which has taught me valuable skills in time management, communications, procurement and administration.
August 2014 & 2015 - Lighting Technician / Sound Operator, Storm on the Lawn, Bath
I have been a key member of the sound and lighting team for the annual “Storm on the Lawn” outdoor youth production run by the Theatre Royal, Bath. During the 2015 production of “The Teapot Poisoner”, I held the roles of Lighting Technician, Follow Spot Operator and Lighting Operator. This role included rigging the lighting, and creating bespoke festoon lights. In the 2014 production of “Robin Hood”, I was the Sound Operator, but also assisted with the set design, and light rigging.
This experience has taught me a variety of different roles involved with TV and Theatre production, as well as experience of working on location in an outdoor environment.
October 2014 - Camera Operator for Simon Tyler, Highlightmedia.tv
Mr Tyler approached the Bath Studio School requesting assistance for a filming event in 2014. I volunteered to assist Mr Tyler, spending half a day arranging lighting and equipment, and undertaking the camera operation.
August 2013 - Camera Assistant at Act2Cam, A Young Person’s Production and Acting Company
I attended a residential one week young person’s Film Camp helping to produce a film from scratch. I performed the role of camera assistant, responsible for lenses and camera equipment. I also operated the clapperboard. This experience involved me working in a large team in various filming locations and environments.
March 2013 - Stage Equipment Management at Enlightened lighting, Bath (One week work experience)
I completed a week’s work experience involved with the delivery and collection of stage and lighting equipment; testing of electrical components; and arranging orders.
