Doc Butler – Actors Bio

The son of a funeral director and a record dealer, Doc Butler originates from a tiny village in Worcestershire but now enjoys life in the fast lane, acting in London.
He has appeared in film, stage, radio and television. He can currently be seen in Coronation Street as 'James Woodgate' and in the series World Of Beercraft as 'Terry'. Leading film credits include The Vengermader in award nominated Folklore’s Intimates, Mank in Portabello Road Film Festival finalist Taste and Gordon LeRotter in award winning In The Bin. He starred in A Morbid Fascination which is currently in post production.

Doc has played many roles in the world of theatre and began his professional career by playing Kieran in the UK debut of American dark comedy The Irish Curse by Martin Casella. Other theatre roles include; Damis in Tartuffe with Handplay productions, John Bold in The Warden with Traffic Of The Stage and Lysander in Midsummer Night’s Dream with No Loss productions. He also has a wealth of experience in live comedy and improv.

Doc is known for voice-work and appeared recently in radio drama Quicksand.

Doc is an award winning writer, director and is an accomplished singer (being classically trained from youth to adulthood). He has professional experience in all three disciplines.
For the most part, Doc is a character actor. Giving deep and sensitive performances mainly within the realms of dark comedy and drama. Although he has no formal training, he has explored and adventured this planet as much as he has studied the people that inhabit it, giving him a broad scope of reference. His fascination and love for the diversity in the world is expressed truthfully through the filter that is his creative guise.
You can see him as James Woodgate in Coronation Street and leads in the series World Of Beercraft as Terry. Doc also produces comedy with his brothers through Little Balloon productions. He has worked closely with his brother Oobah Butler and VICE.

Doc is a co-owner of Little Balloon films which specialise in dark comedies. He now has three festival nominated films and one winner under his personal belt. Co-writing and acting in all.

Doc has had a lifetime on stage and all though he had no formal training has made up for it with integrity and experience. Although there is a lot of comedy experience, the majority of what he's done (especially on stage) has been drama. He embraces all genres and loves a broad plethora.

Doc is a classically trained singer and was in several opera's in his youth, which lead onto a few bands and professional singing for bouts of his life. His vocal talents also have lead to voice over work and public speaking.

In present times Doc created, wrote and directed comedy series World Of Beercraft and is in post production with his debut feature; A Morbid Fascination.

The experience of travelling the world had a heavy impact on Doc's decisions and attitude in life. He fictitiously chronicled them in his comic Primate which is currently being shopped around publishers.
