About me
Drama has been a subject that has greatly influenced me both personally and academically; I have found that through drama, I have been able to cope better in social situations and deal with the stresses of life. It has helped me to grow as a person; someone who is more comfortable with himself and, through acting and character work, I have been able to understand emotions and states of mind more clearly. Sometimes delving into psychology.Drama gives me an immense feeling of belonging and I love the sense of being part of something so full of energy and enthusiasm. A space full of like-minded people. I would love to get the chance to learn more about the subject and gain more personal experience and skills.
During my time at Emrys Ap Iwan and Llandrillo Menai, I have taken part in many different performances, both dramatically and musical theatre based.
Acting experience:
I am currently doing a HNC acting course at Llandrillo College. I’m enjoying every moment of it. Two of my favourite performances that I had the pleasure to perform in were a college adapted version of ‘Newsies’, known as ‘STRIKE!’, where I played the main supporting role, Davey aka Morris, and the other show ‘Rock of Ages’, where I played the antagonist, Hertz Klineman. I found both of these roles to be fun and quite challenging. Playing as Morris was a challenge because it was one of my first big roles in a show. I had to be inspiring, I had to bring energy and be a leader, supporting my fellow performers. With Morris I got to test my wide vocal range, which allowed me to express that skill. I’ve also performed in front of a camera, and know a range of terminology and techniques, not only from an actor’s perspective, but also from a director and a cinematographer’s perspective.
Additional skills:
I have had some productive experiences backstage. I was an Assistant Stage Manager for a college production of ‘Toad of Toad Hall’, and a high school production of ‘Footloose’ in The Pavilion Theatre in Rhyl. The backstage work in both productions was challenging and fun. I learned how to make a number of props, and I learned about all sorts of different cues, even putting my knowledge to the test on the nights. In ‘Footloose’ I worked very closely with the SM to make sure I was performing my duties as quickly as possible. He taught me how to improvise if something were to go awry.
Additional information:
An interest of mine is film and video. Whether I'm waiting for a film to be released to cinema, or I’m looking for something to watch on the many streaming services out there, or when I’m spending long hours on youtube watching my favourite creators, I find myself often fascinated, not only by the end result, but the process of making visual media. I’m always thinking to myself “What would I change here?”, “If I was making this, what shots would I use?”, or “How could I edit the footage to heighten the scene or affect the narrative?”
I haven't really touched editing software before. On a technical level, I am a complete beginner but, I’ve got a keen eye, and I am a quick learner and I'm ready to dive in. I’ll do my best to overcome what's thrown my way. As someone with a passion for this medium, I cannot wait to learn and create, to use a camera professionally, to mix sound into my videos. I feel like sound in films or in videos doesn't get enough credit for the effect it has on the audience and how it heightens the emotions in a story, or how it can juxtapose the narrative for another reason. Thinking about all the possibilities of creating this art has me really excited to see what I can bring to the table, and explore my limits as a filmmaker.
