About me

I was born in Folkestone in Kent, to Henry 'Mick' Ryan, a well-known local cricketer and footballer, and Elsie Howard, a former London beauty queen and Regimental Sergeant Major in the Woman's Army. I was educated at the Folkestone Technical High School for Girls (now the Girls' Grammar School), South Kent College in Ashford, and I am a graduate in Mathematics from the University of Kent.

After several jobs as a teacher, an army clerk, a secretary in a travel company, and a newspaper archivist (to name a few) I am now turning my hobby of acting into a full-time profession. I can sing, dance (with special skill in ballroom and Latin-american dance), can operate puppets and can learn lines and songs very quickly (possessing a near-photographic memory). I am fully-available at all times.

I have had several lead roles in stage productions at the Marlowe Theatre in Canterbury, as well as in many short films. Some of the feature films and TV show in which I have appeared include The Other Boleyn Girl, Les Miserables, Suffragette, Star Wars, The Tunnel, Hetty Feather and Catastrophe.

I also have a great deal of backstage experience including costume-making, set building and decorating, make-up, lighting, and stills photography. On the subject of photography I have won several local and national contest and have been exhibited several times - including in the Photographers' Gallery in London.

During the 1980s I won several carnival/beauty queen titles which include, Miss Folkestone, Miss Sealink South East, Miss Cheriton, Miss 94 Regiment, and Miss Essex Personality. I have also done some cat-walk modelling – most recently for a fairy costume company! I have also worked in promotions, most memorably helping out at a local comic book shop for Free Comic Book Day for five years.

SPECIAL SKILLS
Photography (national prize-winning and exhibited photographer, with full professional digital and 35mm SLR camera equipment). Currently one of the chief photographers on Kent Creative Arts. A Year in the Life of Whitstable exhibition and book project.
Puppetry.
Typing (to RSA Stage 3) and Word Processing (to Pitman's Masterclass).
Red Cross trained First Aider.
Choral singing performances.
Can sew and sketch to a high standard. Knitting.
Have experience in costume and prop making, and set design.
Worked as a clerk in the army and have some knowledge of military form.
Have some experience in dog handling and training, and am the proud owner of a well-trained wired-haired, tri-coloured, Parson (Jack Russell).
