About me
Hi, I am an actor and drama educator living in Lincolnshire. Having been a professional actor in my twenties, and taking a break for a number of reasons, I am yearning to get back to performance. I am passionate about theatre and its capacity to reach out to others and am an advocate for the arts (particularly but not exclusively in an educational setting) and whilst most of my work has been in TIE or of a family friendly nature, I am very excited and enthused to be branching out and to see what I can do! With age has come experience and confidence and I am building upon existing skills to collaborate on a range of different digital and theatre projects, as actor, director and writer. I spent a long time teaching Drama and English in a variety of state and independent schools, running numerous productions. I have never lost my yearning to return to the stage and I now feel ready to take the next step and become a committed, full time actor, who wants to help re-build our struggling industry.I am confident in my vocal skills and am particularly interested in voice over work. I have been performing locally in community theatre, as well as doing a lot of online work recently. My most recent work has been with a company who set themselves up during Covid and produced a socially distanced educational film entitled ' for the SOfestival in Lincolnshire. I am hoping to form a new theatre company within the next couple of years to reach a wide range of audiences with new writing for a potential 'new normal'.
Within the last five years, I have been involved in a number of both school and community projects a particularly successful one being with Blackbird support group in Louth, running a theatre workshop with a group of adults with learning difficulties and some students from a secondary school. My combined skill set of acting and teaching made this a worthwhile and successful venture, one which many people benefitted from and which I hope to repeat when we are able.
Acting experience:
I started acting professionally at the age of 22 after graduating from Hertfordshire Theatre school with a Diploma in Acting and Musical Theatre, and LAMDA Verse and Prose Speaking Silver and Gold Medals (Distinction and Honours) preceded by a BA(Hons) degree in Drama and English from Roehampton University.
My first job as a professional actor was with a small scale company who toured the west midlands with a pantomime. We visited an array of schools and social clubs with an engaging and versatile version of 'Jack and the Beanstalk'. I was also company manager and had responsibility for liaising with venue managers and ensuring the well being of the company.
After this I performed in a variety of festivals in Shrewsbury and Dorset, with a devised piece based on true experiences of World War One Soldiers, this was a community project..
I then formed my own theatre company called 'Footlights'. We toured Bedfordshire schools and Liverpool colleges with several two-handers including ' Bar and Ger' by Geraldine Mckewon and 'Summer With Monika' based on the Roger McGough poem.
My roles over the years have included:
