    REVIEWS:

BLOOD WEDDING, Tour, April - May 2014:

"[A] powerful and intellectually stimulating work.... Alice Knapton's bride wrings our heartstrings as a girl seeking to be happily and conventionally married but driven by emotional forces she cannot control."

    - Kent Messenger

LAST OF THE RED HOT LOVERS, Regional Tour, June - July 2013:

"The women...light up the room, each displaying the ability to consistently make us laugh and also to question ourselves."

"Alice Knapton gives a sensitive and detailed performance as the twitchy, nervous Jeanette, and it is she who really questions what it is that Barney really wants."

"This production is thoroughly enjoyable providing many moments of humour intermixed with moments of heartbreak. Highly recommended."

    - The Good Review, FOUR STARS

PROOF, National Tour, Sept - Oct 2012:

"Catherine may be miserable but there is something loveable in her genuine say-it-how-it -is nature and exposed vulnerability that make her irresistibly likeable, and totally captivating, and indeed what gives the play its beating heart. Alice Knapton's truthful simplicity makes her perfect casting for this role."

    - London Aisle, FOUR STARS

"It's rare[r] to see a marvellous play given full justice by a superb cast but this staging of Proof was one of those occasions...enthralling and the acting from all was superb...thought-provoking...with plenty of comedy as well."

    - Kent Messenger

"First-rate acting...gripping drama...the mind as well as the heart is engaged."

    - Wells and Fakenham Times

NOEL COWARD'S STILL LIFE, Union Theatre, August 2012:

"An exquisite piece of theatre...Definitely worth a look"

    - Paul Vale, The Stage

"Delightful production...Wonderfully performed...Each turn of emotion, interaction and individual storyline was executed elegantly and left the audience wanting more."

    - Remote Goat, FIVE STARS

    "creative...playful, realistic"

"Knapton...deliver[s] a wordless exploration of Laura's quest to find belonging through love. Trying to match the intelligence of her lover with over-enthusiastic eyes and a smile pressed by anxious concentration, she attentively listens as he explains his work."

    - A Younger Theatre

NOEL COWARD'S STILL LIFE, Bridewell Theatre, June 2012:

"Alice Knapton is gorgeous as the conflicted Laura Jesson"

    "endearing, saddening and heart-warming"

"the cast as a whole...really tipped

off an excellent and thoroughly elegant execution of the well-known drama"

    - Remote Goat, FOUR STARS

"Solid performances from the lovers (Knapton and Powell,) bubbling with under currents of suppressed intensity and squashed desire steaming from their clipped chatter"

    "exquisitely executed"

    - The London Aisle, FOUR STARS

"Alice Knapton (Laura) and James Powell (Alec)...bring a multi-layered texture to the roles that hints at all that lies beneath...an emotional punch."

    - A Civilian's Guide to the Theatre.

GREAT EXPECTATIONS, Baron's Court Theatre, October 2011:

"It's quite astonishing. When Alice Knapton belts and raves as bitter Mrs Joe, it's hard to believe she was the chilly, elegant Estella only a few minutes earlier. Not because she had changed wigs or [costumes]...to portray poverty and slaving away...It's all in the acting...Great stuff!"

    - Brigitte Downey, W14 Londoning

DECENCY / DISCRETION, Phoenix Artist Club, July 2011:

"a close-knit cast of four...well-acted...enjoyable and thought-provoking performance...a brilliant play, one not to be missed"

    - London Festival Fringe, FOUR STARS

    "original, compelling,thought-provoking...hilarious performance"

    - Honest Theatre

300 FRIENDS, Hackney Wicked Festival, July 2010:

"The [five] characters...are each perfectly formed, and wonderful to watch...the audience are intoxicated...heart-warming, complex, and intimate"

    - Jake Orr, A Younger Theatre

ROSENCRANTZ AND GUILDENSTERN ARE DEAD, National Tour, March to May 2010:

    "excellent cast" - The Stage

"I loved every minute...high standard of physicality was kept up by the cast throughout the rest of the play, particularly in the ensemble scenes" - The Cambridge Tab, FIVE STARS

"The travelling actors...offer comedy, tragedy and pastoral...they cavort and twist through the nuances of the plot with ease and ingenuity...Stunning performances" - Mary Dunk, Suffolk Press

    About me

Living in London. Pro-active actor and director. I enjoy making truthful, engaging, life-affirming - or life-changing - theatre. I like lots of different styles, mainly working in naturalism, but also have experience in physical theatre. For me, style is less relevant; it is the characters, story, and heart of the piece which are integral.
