About me
Born and educated in Edinburgh, for the last thirty years, I have worked professionally in the world of theatre as actor, director composer, musician and writer. In the 80’s and 90’s I cut my teeth in most theatre companies in Scotland, particularly with Theatre Workshop, Dundee Rep, the Royal Lyceum and Communicado before spending six years at Northern Stage Newcastle. Returning to Edinburgh, I joined up with my old friend Andy Cannon at Wee Stories Theatre, where together we created most of the companies award-winning work over the following decade, with shows such as; Treasure Island, The Emperor’s New Kilt (co-production with National Theatre of Scotland) and Arthur, the Story of a King. I became co-director in 2006 and Artistic Director in 2012. Most recently with Wee Stories, I performed in, directed and wrote the play 'The Man who followed his legs (and kept on walking)'.
Outside of Wee Stories, I have worked with amongst others, The Royal Shakespeare Company, the National Theatre, the National Theatre of Wales, Improbable, West Yorkshire Playhouse, the Lyric Hammersmith, Theatre Sans Frontieres and the Stadsteatern in Stockholm. I am also an Associate Artist with the London-based company Told by an Idiot with whom for over 19 years I have collaborated closely on numerous productions, most recently as an actor and composer on the co-production with the National Theatre of Scotland of 'I Am Thomas'.
