I have been teaching myself to play the double bass for 3 years and I play some keyboard and acoustic Guitar. I enjoy sing Jazz and Blues and I like to write short scripts for film/screen. I also enjoy directing and as a Drama Teacher I directed school plays.
I work as a professional Voiceover Artist and have produced audios for a number of Clients.
I have my own professional home recording studio. My voice is warm, rich, authoritative and versatile where I am able to change the tone and pitch of my voice and embrace a number of different accents such as Jamaican, general African, English RP, general Indian and Birmingham. I have a very good ear for accents and can imitate what I hear.
My name is Joyce Grey-Carter. I was born and live in London; UK and I am of Jamaican parentage. I have 4 sisters and a brother as well as two cats Dusky and Misty. I am married with a daughter who is 25 years old. I have been married for 18 years and with my husband for a total of 28 years.
I work passionately, as an Actress, Voiceover Artist, Doodly and Toonly Animator and Writer (of short scripts, poems and stories) which I thoroughly enjoy.
I trained at Mountview Theatre School and Middlesex Polytechnic/University in Performance Arts. I also attended Anna Scher and WAC.
I have worked as a professional Voiceover Artist for 5 years and resumed my Acting career almost three years ago having taught as a qualified and experienced Drama/Acting and Special Educational Needs Teacher in High Schools for 27 years, up until December 2017.
I love photography and photographing wildlife. I enjoy cooking, gardening, reading, dancing and singing.
I am so passionate as a creative that I feel and know, if I am not given opportunities to be creative, I have to provide those opportunities for myself and I love that.
I was awarded the East London Shakespeare Award for best duologue performance.
I was nominated last year for the One Voice Awards 2019 @ova2019, for the best Character voice and this year, for the Best Newcomer @ova2020; (The Ceremony has been postponed for September 2020 due to COVID-19).
I have performed in a number of staged performances over the years and a number of short films two of which were awarded best film in the Film Festivals they were submitted to. I have toured my own one woman comedy show and recently featured in a commercial for TENA, directed by Yorgus Lanthimous which was released in March of this year. I also featured in an infomercial for JML called 'Eyebrow Magic'. I have performed in a couple of music videos also. I've featured in a number of NHS Doctor Training videos and lifestyle modelling photographic shoots and videos. I recently featured in an American Sci Fi series called Foundation, filmed in Ireland, WAP Foundation, which will be released next year on a well known streaming service.
