About me
I have always been a creative individual, with a very strong imagination, and from a very young age I used to write my own stories. My dad always used to be in a local pantomime and then when I turned 12 I was allowed to join and I absolutely loved it, I only ever had small parts but I still loved every second. But I then started to grow out of my small town pantomime society and I went off to Sixth Form. Although I soon discovered that Sixth Form wasn't for me, so I decided to go and study acting in the Performing Arts building at Newcastle College. I had the qualifications to start studying in Level 3, but I decided to start on a Level 2 Performing Arts course because I believe that it is important to get the foundations. And I definitely feel that I wouldn't have been the actor I am today if I hadn't gone onto that Level 2 course.
So I have just finished my last year of Level 3 and I am currently studying a BA Honours in Drama (Acting and Performance) at Northumbria University. During my time at college I have had many acting opportunities. In level 2 I got the chance to play Blousey in 'Bugsy Malone'. And in Level 3 I was able to Play The Goddess Calypso in 'The Odyssey' and I have also just finished performing as Antonia in our end of year show, 'The Tempest'. I really enjoyed this role because it was something totally different to what I’m used to, and it gave me the opportunity to play an evil character, which opened my repertoire as an actor.
But my biggest achievement of them all has got to be performing 'The Suppliant Women' at Northern Stage with The Actor's Touring Company in November 2016. Being part of this production has also meant that I am now part of a theatre company called 'Young Company' at Northern Stage. I have just finished working on a performance called ‘A Song for Ella Grey’ with this theatre company. I thoroughly enjoyed working on this performance because it was something totally different to what I’m used to. I was given the opportunity to perform both in front and behind the camera, which means that I was able to build up some knowledge in how film works. I was able to be the director, camera man, sound man and bring the board in and out of the shot, which means that I have some knowledge in that area also. As well as this, we recorded sound for this piece of theatre, which meant that I learnt a lot about how sound was recorded and how we can use our bodies to create certain sounds. For example, we used our hands and bodies to create the sound of a bonfire. I now feel like I have a lot experience in both the film and sound industry and I’m looking forward to being able to build that experience further.
I have also just finished performing a piece called 'Where Do We Stand' with 'Young Company' and it was one of my favourite shows to date, I feel that we really showed people what it was like to be a young person in Newcastle. We even got the opportunity to perform this piece at the 'European Youth Theatre Festival' in Birmingham and we got an amazing response. Which included two standing ovations. I was absolutely blown away by the support from other people and it just really confirmed to me how much I love the thrill of acting. We also got to see three shows a day which was incredible because it meant that I got to build up my theatre repertoire.
Additional skills:
I am very punctual and I have a good attendance at university, which demonstrates that I am reliable to work with. I can project my voice well and I'd like to think that I have good diction and clarity. I can perform a variety of different styles of acting, which include physical theatre, classical and contemporary. I am also a soprano 2 singer.
Additional information:
I enjoy a range of different hobbies in my spare time, including reading, and exploring the world I live in. I also like to attend the theatre at any chance I can. Music is a huge part of my daily life, and I am a keen concert/gig goer. I like to stay fit and healthy by going to the gym regularly and eating a balanced diet.
