    About me

Kevin was born in London, and his early theatrical experiences came via the D’Oyly Carte Opera Company, which he joined not long after leaving school. On leaving that company he undertook a postgraduate year at the Guildhall. His career has principally been that of a singing actor, but he has fulfilled a number of engagements purely as an actor and narrator. He was involved with the Defoe Trio as Dickens and Otto Heinrich, a Bath Pump Room violinist around whose biography the composer Richard Barnard constructed a piece for narrator and string trio.

At the Royal National Theatre, Kevin was the vocal/drama consultant on Stolen Voices by Neyire Ashworth, a play about Turkish family culture and migration.

His stage biography (Eating the Peach: when Mozart met Mick Kelly) of Mozart’s favourite tenor/actor is about to be revived, having been initially commissioned from Brian Abbot and performed at the Regency Theatre in Richmond a few years ago. He performed a number of roles in the same playwright’s Diving Through Time, a community play about the Thames, and Cry Freedom, a celebration of the abolition of slavery. He has appeared frequently in both London and provincial theatres. He was Balthazar in Much Ado About Nothing for the Sherman Theatre, Cardiff, returning there for the Unicorn Children’s Theatre production of Clockwork . Seasons at The Lowry, Almeida, Riverside, The Young Vic and The Donmar Warehouse have featured in his career. He has made numerous T.V. appearances both as a singer and an actor, notably in The People’s Passion with Ron Moody and Robert Hardy (Channel 4), and Figaro Live (BBC2). A play commissioned to mark the 100th anniversary of the death of W.S. Gilbert was given at the King’s Head Theatre, now styled “London’s Little Opera House”. Kevin, as Gilbert, was much praised for the scope of his performance, encompassing as it did a great deal of period dialogue, including quotes from Gilbert’s own libretti, the singing of large chunks of the G&S operettas, and demonstrations of how Gilbert engineered the choreography and movement in his productions. In 2016 he appeared as Dr. Chasuble in the Royal Opera’s production of Gerald Barry’s The Importance of Being Earnest. This was staged at The Barbican and The Lincoln Centre, New York.

This year he played Beethoven in Beethoven’s Quartet Journey for the Dante String Quartet and Sir John Fastolfe in Brian Abbot’s A Time to Gather Stones for the St. Benet’s Abbey Festival in Norfolk.

Kevin has directed La Finta Giardiniera (Mozart) for the summer school at Scheggino, Italy. He is currently in negotiation about further directing projects.
