Additional Information
For 'Taken in Marriage' -
"Co-founders of production company Rol’n, Liane Grant and Roxanne Lamendola, take on the meatiest roles of Andy and Dixie respectively, performing them with considerably credit. Grant’s brusque Andy and her careless 5 marriages nicely conceal an emotional core." (The Reviews Hub)
"The actors bring great emotional depth to their characters, each of whom have long-concealed secrets...Liane Grant (RoL’n Productions’ co-founder) builds a facade of cynicism over the insecurities of Annie’s sister Andy" (The Metropolist)
"The performers themselves were an extremely talented group of actresses. Liane Grant as Andrea, also built the character gradually, allowing us to absorb more about her motivations and feelings as titbits of information were gradually fed into the conversation, letting us see a young woman who had become disillusioned with life and marriage in particular." (Sardines)
For 'Doubt' -
***** "an absolutely stellar cast. The four-strong ensemble does not have a weak link among them, and the near-flawless performances of all contain both the intensity to make the script sing, and the restraint to prevent one from overpowering the rest. Liane Grant as Sister Aloysius and Max Upton as Father Flynn effortlessly shoulder the two most challenging roles, creating an electric dynamic as the power shifts seamlessly between them...This is far and away the best production that I've seen in Cambridge all year." (TCS)
**** "Liane Grant’s Sister Aloysius is the lynchpin of the production, and her performance is unwaveringly assured. Her control as an actress is formidable, and she fully inhabits her role as the hard-edged stickler, allowing her to bring out the deep subtleties of the character." (The Tab)
For 'All My Sons' -
***** “Kate Keller, played by Liane Grant, a performance that filled the stage with emotion…what was truly excellent about the production: the acting. The play requires quality performances to accommodate the pressure of the dialogue, and in this the cast succeeded with flying colours…When members of the audience are in tears as they leave a theatre, you know something went right on the stage,” (Varsity)
**** “The acting was of an incredibly high level; a fellow theatre-goer compared it favourably to the aforementioned Apollo run…intense emotion and beautiful acting.” (The Tab)
For 'Duck' -
“The standout performer though is Liane Grant doing turns as both Cat’s and Sophie’s mums: she nails the mix of frustration, grim humour and buried familial affection that the script offers. To her immense credit, Grant also keeps up an authentic Irish accent throughout the play." (The Tab)
**** “Feehily’s broken homes are held together by the versatile brilliance of Liane Grant, perfectly cast as both mothers…Grant evokes an awkward pity for the mother eventually deserted.” (TCS)
For 'Journey's End' -
**** “Liane Grant’s Trotter hinted at the hidden depth to Trotter’s character without ever fully exposing it” (Varsity)
“There is one character in particular I would like to focus on here and that is Trotter. It is Hibbert who says “Oh, Trotter, you’re like a dream…” and Liane Grant certainly was…the inclusion of a female actress to play Trotter was an interesting and successful venture. It didn’t matter that Grant was a woman at all…she really was the perfect Trotter. She captured his hilarious unchanging nature perfectly.” (TCS)
For 'Much Ado About Nothing' -
**** “a strong supporting cast, with an engaging and intelligent performance from Liane Grant.” (The Tab)
For 'Steel Magnolias' -
"the hilarious Liane Grant as ‘Ouiser’ Boudreaux, who managed to be entertaining and vulnerable at the same time." (The Tab)
**** “Grant’s delivery was faultless; she had everyone in stitches from the second she opened her mouth…five star acting” (Varsity)
For 'Annie Get Your Gun' -
“…excellent comic turns, by Liane Grant as the put-upon Dolly, charming and thoroughly entertaining" (TCS)
"consistently hilarious contributions from Liane Grant” (Varsity)
“Another performer worth mentioning was Liane Grant as showgirl reject Dolly; her perfectly deadpan timing made her the ideal foil.” (The Tab)
For 'Be My Baby' -
“Grant’s Matron was adequately foreboding when watching over her charges’ activities …emotionally engaging” (Varsity)
***** "It is the most powerful piece of theatre I have seen in Cambridge in a long time...With a convincing cast and simple staging, it's a production with talent and integrity, and a must-see for anyone who loves true, honest theatre." (TCS)
About me
Liane's theatre experience spans over ten years, having performed in New York, London, Edinburgh, Cambridge and Japan.
Early in her career, she was an assistant to director Jan Dunn on her award-winning film 'Gypo.' Dunn was so impressed with her she created a part for her in the film, and so Liane made her debut opposite Paul McGann, Pauline McLynn and Rula Lenska.
While at the American Academy she took on some of the most challenging roles to great acclaim, including the title role in an all-female production of Julius Caesar. At Cambridge she was involved with over 20 productions as an actor including a tour of Japan, and several as a director and producer as well.
Liane is now signed with Helen Filmer at Jonathan Altaras Associates. She is a hard-working, versatile character actress, eager to continue challenging herself and working professionally in theatre, television and film.
