    About me

Hailing from Yorkshire, Matthew trained at the Royal Central School of Speech & Drama in London, graduating from the Complicité-associated BA (Hons) Acting: Collaborative & Devised Theatre course in 2014. His work as an actor / deviser includes Theatre By The Lake, Chester Storyhouse, a No. 1 tour with Leicester Curve and Rose Theatre Kingston, a tour of Maklena to Ukraine, several immersive, experimental and fringe productions, and BBC TV / Radio. He also performs as John Keats for Keats’ House, Hampstead, as a reader for Live Canon Poetry Ensemble, and plays the clarinet.

As a physical theatre specialist, Matthew has performed in The Magic Flute (Simon McBurney, Complicité), The Winter’s Tale (Rory Kinnear, ENO), and as choreographer/movement-double for Timothy Spall in feature film Stanley, A Man Of Variety (Stephen Cookson). As puppeteer, his work includes Father Christmas with Lyric Hammersmith/Pins & Needles, several tours with Slot Machine Theatre, and R&D with Blind Summit.

Matthew has also worked as Movement Director on numerous shows, including the 2020 Off-West-End Award Nominated productions of Partenope (Hampstead Garden Opera, Jacksons’ Lane), Moby Dick (Brockley Jack), and My Other Self (Cockpit Theatre). He is Associate Artist for So It Goes Theatre (a New Diorama Emerging Company 2019), Movement Director for Pendley Shakespeare Festival and regularly teaches Lecoq technique at the Actors’ Centre.

Alongside Linn Johansson, Matthew is co-founder of Artistic Rebellion, an interdisciplinary UK/Swedish devised theatre company. Their work has featured at Fertility Fest 2019 (The Barbican), and Varberg Festival, Sweden. Their next production, Made From Love, debuts at Camden People's Theatre in January 2020. Matthew's other work as theatre-maker / producer includes This Might Be It (Theatre N16, 2016), and The Studio Festival 2014-2016 (RCSSD).
