About me
Having grown up in Bolton with a deep love for theatre and live events, I was keen, after my A levels, to discover more about creating theatre and where a career in the arts could take me. I studied a Writing, Directing and Performance BA at the University Of York. During my degree (and countless intra and extra curricular performances) I fell in love with technical theatre and stage management and have had great success and bucket loads of fun pursuing a career as a technical stage manager.I worked for a number of years in the north of England, (Lancashire and Yorkshire), for regional companies such as Flying Clouds Theatre and The Mind Over Matter Collective, as well as at large regional venues, such as the Grand Opera House in York, gaining more experience and honing my skills.
Now I spend most of my time touring the UK as a Technical Stage Manager. Responsibilities usually include caring for the company, transporting set and lighting equipment, operating lights and sound, managing the get in and out (including setting up lighting and sound equipment and building the set), relighting the show and fixing props, costume and set as necessary. When I am not touring I work in a more traditional stage manager role in London off Westend productions, sourcing props, maintaining the book, running technical rehearsals and calling shows.
My work in the last few years has been very varied, from dance and puppetry to musical theatre and one-man shows. I have worked with very diverse audiences, from the under 2’s all the way to the elderly in their retirement homes. In addition, I have worked in a variety of different venues, from large regional theatres, such as Bristol Old Vic and Manchester Royal Exchange, to pub theatres, schools and libraries. I have even completed sight specific work in churches, abandoned warehouses and the top of the Malvern Hills!! I am always keen to stay flexible to the specific demand of each production and absolutely love rising to the challenges each production will pose.
Autumn of 2017 took an exciting turn for me as I ventured into international touring taking a children’s Opera to a number of prestigious venues across Europe and touring India with Soho Theatre’s production of Half Breed.
I love my job. I love creating something spectacular for audiences. I love working closely with passionate and creative people. And I can’t wait to see where this amazing industry takes me next.
