About me
Based in Liverpool, I am a costume designer, maker and embroiderer specialising in costumes for theatre, live performance and film. In 2015 I graduated from the University of Huddersfield with a first class degree in Costume with Textiles; there I began exploring the fusion of hand embroidery with contemporary and materials. The result of my experimentation, ‘The woman’ later won the prestigious London based Hand & Lock prize for Embroidery. My current work delves into the world of wearable technology, creative pattern cutting and traditional embroidery techniques. I am now looking for further opportunities to pursue design and collaborate with likeminded teams of creatives and performers to put on captivating performance.Additional skills:
Costume and wardrobe
Costume research, design and illustration. Both flat pattern cutting and cutting on the stand. Garment construction, fitting and alteration. Experienced and skilled with many difficult materials such as silk velvet, leather, silk chiffon and latex. Hand and industrial machine stitching. Breaking down costume. Sourcing costume and styling. Dressing and wardrobe management. Ironing, washing and a wide knowledge of fabrics and how to care for them.
Millinery
I have attended several night courses is Millinery;
Blocking and steaming wool felt hats into a variety of shapes. Manipulating Sinamay and buckram to form hat structures and bases. Lining, covering and embellishing bases.
Textiles
Both hand and machine embroidery techniques, tambour beading, silk shading. Specialising in intricate gold work hand embroidery. Natural and synthetic dying. Printing techniques including screen-printing and heat pressing.
